I am agnostic (who leans atheist). I was once quite a devout Christian who realized that its all bunk.
But his actual comments seem to be relatively benign. Hoping your wife joins your religion is not the same as insisting. And if you actually believe that the only way to heaven is through your religion, then of course you’d hope your wife would be there.
But he’s also a two-faced smarmy little shit whose word doesn’t mean anything.

She looks so exhausted and spent every time I see her at rallies. You can tell the amount of evil she’s catching second hand from him and Trump’s administration is eating away at her soul. But you can only sympathize so much, as she could level this evil clown whenever but has not done so.
Yep. It’s this attitude that was the final nail in the coffin for organized religion for me. Brought my immigrant wife to my dad’s church on special request. Everyone was completely gracious and kind at first. Then the sermon started. Everyone but Christians are going to hell. You know the song. Then the preacher went on to rail on Buddhism not understanding that very few people in Japan, where my wife is from, are actually practicing Buddhists or any religion at all. Nor did he understand that what Japanese people (or really anyone) hate worse than anything is being centered out. Queue all the old ladies pressuring her to accept Christ or face the consequences. She was never in. But I was out.
I still believe in God and hold the values very closely. But churches are full of people who are told that their way is the only way and they need to convince everyone of that. That’s a even bigger issue when one correct “way” of living your life could be completely different if you just drive to the next church down the road. Organized religion really reduces one’s critical thinking skills and promotes in groups and out groups in communities where church presence is strong.
Hopefully he’s sleeping on the couch when he gets home.

I grew up in a religious home, but I’m no longer religious myself, but it still angers me how much they have perverted that religion. It is supposed to be about humility, selflessness, and love. Instead they’ve turned into some weird prosperity gospel BS that preaches hate and cruelty.
