That’s why Trump officials are moving onto military bases. MAGA thinks they’ll be on the other side of the gates. In the end, as history rhymes once more, they’ll soon find out their invitation was “lost in the mail.”

The crux of the matter is really going to be the harmful stuff that happens during the shutdown that did not need to. Like SNAP benefits expiring. Totally unnecessary. *Illegal*, even, given that there are appropriated funds specifically for the purpose of keeping those benefits active during the shutdown.  And entirely because of, at the direction of, trump and his handlers and enablers.

  3. I’d hope so, they literally control all the major branches of government right now.

That’s like writing the test, grading it yourself, failing, and then blaming the pencil.

Because it’s their fault . “We HAVE to starve you unless dems handover your healthcare! Food or access to healthcare,  you can’t have both or really either in trumps America!”

Golden age, my ass. Gold for trump, golden imitation velveta for everyone else.

The gop position is that you can’t have food unless you give up your healthcare or the dems give up your healthcare.  They are terrorists of the American people

I caught the tail end of a public radio show yesterday afternoon and they had a congressman on (dem, and I didn’t catch his name) and he was saying many of the Republicans were telling them privately that they want to negotiate and help their constituents but trump has ordered them not to and unless he gives the word they can’t and won’t sit down with dems to negotiate.  Trump is a pathetic mob boss and I’m sure that he and his goons are threatening the lives of republican congress people and their families to keep them in line. And they are traitors.

People have always blamed the sitting admin for shutdowns, that’s one of the very few things thats stayed consistent in politics

  6. Wish Democrats had stayed in Washington, shown up at Capitol everyday ready to work, held a press conference everyday with 250 Democrats on the Capitol steps, rain or shine.

DUH! They’ve spent the past ten months doing EVERYTHING they wanted, and now they’re helpless little babies who need to cooperate? Fuck the fascist Republican Cult

  8. The headline paints a somewhat rosier picture than reality.

Republicans are footing the blame at a rate of 45%, with 39% blaming Democrats. While Republicans may be taking more of the statistical blame, if you were to walk around town and strike up conversations with people, it would probably feel more like 50/50 in practice.

The reality is that neither side holds a true advantage right now with regards to the blame game that could be exploited as leverage. If I were a political analyst, I wouldn’t be sleeping well with those numbers no matter which side of the issue I were on.

  9. They didn’t pass a budget, it’s on them. They went home and stopped working on it.

  10. If these people in the administration had any interest in actually governing they’d spend the energy they do trying to control the optics doing it.

‘A government shutdown falls on president’s lack of leadership’
    – Trump 2013

  12. How blind are those who refuse to see.
Even CNN & MSNBC are calling for Dems to open their doors government.

  13. The juxtaposition of Trump tearing down 1/3 of the White House to build a $400 million party room, with 20 million Americans losing affordable healthcare is pretty stark.

Oh you mean all the bots hashtagging “Schumershutdown” all over social media aren’t swaying the populace?

  15. Let me guess, 60% blame trump and 40% blame democrats. You could literally write a new news story about this every day. It’s not news that he has 40% support.

  16. Otherwise_Stable_925 on

Yeah happy record-breaking shut down day. Brought to you twice, by Donald McTrump.

  17. They control all three branches and literally cannot help a majority of Americans with one of their “leaders” in the House telling everyone not to fucking come into work for three weeks in a row to avoid reopening the government.

    This is entirely their fault.

  18. I’m sure that’s fine with the GOP. They aren’t doing this to be popular, but to destroy government and replace it with a monarchy.

  19. Frequent-Client1508 on

Not a single government shut down under Biden. This is number 3 for trump in less than 5 years.

  20. So tired of this.

Americans hold Trump ‘ACCOUNTABLE’ as the leader of the nation. No blame.

  21. turb0_encapsulator on

it’s still kind of incredible though that Republicans can use their bullshit media machine to trick 2-3% of the population.

  22. Find a Republican subreddit, ask who they blame, and this article will prove to be false.

Heck, even check out similar questions on r/AskUS and find republicans blaming dems.

  23. Few_Ticket6959 on

It’s because what the Republicans are saying doesn’t make sense. They control the WH, Senate and House but they have no power lol? They only needed 7 votes?? If anything it shows how divisive this admin is and that Trump can’t govern for shit.

  24. senshiosilence on

Don’t forget the people who wouldn’t vote for Kamala because she didn’t convince them enough so they just didn’t vote.

  25. Six Dems will cave. They always do when things get hard. It sucks but that’s the reality.
