This is a podcast produced by Swedish public radio. I thought it could be good to counter doomerism and also to remember that we also need to be critical of pro-climate change messaging.
The reporter investigated messaging from UN organisations and found that in some instances they have misrepresented data.
The podcast is in English
For example UNICEF used to have on their website that 1.7 million children die every year from climate change (they have changed that now due to this reporting), but that was conflating all types of environmental causes, due to climate change alone the number is estimated more to be around 50 000 children.
UN also claimed that women and children are 14 times more likely to die in natural disasters, but this was based on a few anecdotal events and when the writer of the report was interviewed she said that it was not at all meant to be reported as representing all disasters. There are some more statements they investigated as well.
