  1. That’s not what our supposed ally has done or indicated that they support.

Distancing from America is difficult but there has to be a threshold at some point.

Shame that there’s not an alternative hypothetical government that would be willing to be more pointed.

  2. Its quite scary that the US has done this. We are a resource rich country, are we at risk of this behaviour?

Personally i dont think it will happen to us, the US seams to have set their eyes on Greenland, North and South America.

We can only control the area around us. Let’s be at peace with the fact that the rules based world order has been for the most part a lie, the version of the world that existed in the 40s was not truly democratic (small d), despite it’s best efforts.

We need to double down on building a multinational, democratic (small d), coalition of nations that can provide security to us and our neighbors. The USA is still a partner but China must be as well.

That means everything we’re doing in the Pacific becomes even more important. Soft power is still key, like the rugby. We need to bring Indonesia and the Philippines into our tent somehow, it’ll be hard to make it work.

Our biggest ally (outside of little bro NZ) should be Japan. The largest nearby nation (by GDP) with the most similar values to us at the moment.

This is against the backdrop of our strong commonwealth heritage.

And yea, I’m essentially describing out current foreign policy goals. **We are already doing this** we just need to do it faster and ween off the US more rapidly.

Democratic ? or Capitalism ? The people will suffer more now than they did before as the USA multinational fuel companies financially rape the country.

  6. It’s the 4th of January people… And this happened on the 3rd… 3 days into the year… Only 361 days till 2027!

Congratulations to President Donald J. Trump and the United States of America for the awesome intervention in Venezuela that has captured the tyrant dictator, and has hopefully started a process of liberation.

Australia should stand shoulder to shoulder with our US allies and offering unwavering support.

I’ve withdrawn comments claiming that there’s been no loss of life. There has clearly been loss of life as a result of the intervention. Not sure how many of those lives are civilians. But I think it has still been an effective operation and is a start to reinstating democracy in Venezuela.

I think Australia should be prepared to support peacekeeping operations in Venezuela if it officially becomes a colony or temporary territory of the United States.

Hopefully an intervention in Iran is next.

Absolutely pathetic response. We are watching our biggest military ally spiral into open fascism.

What is democratic about kidnapping the leader of a foreign nation and announcing you will be taking control from now on?

Albanese this is disgusting. Time to stop grovelling to America.
