Is the desire for a brand new, freestanding home so strong that it outweighs the distance from amenities, the lack of tree cover, and the cookie-cutter design? Or have we reached a point where this is simply the only realistic option left for families trying to buy?

I feel by this stage you're already living on top of your neighbor, so you might as well just live in an apartment block.

Australians have the largest houses in the world. They’d literally rather buy this slop built on unironic floodplain 75 minutes from their workplace in cracktown rather than live in an apartment lol.

  2. The more standardised housing gets the cheaper and easier repairs are. My place was built in the 70s and the roof has been an absolute nightmare due to some of the design decisions they made with it. In a cost of living crisis I’ll take cheap and easily repairable over unique and creative design.

  3. Other than the desperate need for trees, this will always beat strata living. Still vividly remember my neighbour angrily knocking on my door for having a movie on at 10/100 volume at 6pm on a Saturday night. Don’t miss it.

  4. It may be the only realistic option for many. The cost of a house has become so unrealistic to a normal family that for most four walls with a roof is the baseline.
