After reading more about Bell, I have to agree with Josh Frydenberg here – I don’t think she’s the best person to have the strength and courage to make the process as spicy and comprehensive as possible.
I think **James Allsopp** is the best candidate.

I am starting to understand why people who don’t want to change the date of Australia Day seem to always use the line ‘they’ll never be happy whatever the date”
It seems to apply to a certain demographic and they assume it goes across the whole population

They cried about not having one
They cried about who is leading it
They will cry about the process
They will cry about the findings

And if he’d picked Allsopp or Lee, they’d be screeching about that and demanding he should have picked Virginia Bell instead. 100% guarantee.

People have been screaming for a Royal Commission for a fortnight without ever understanding that the government gets to control all of it including who heads it, terms of reference, all of it. Literally a case of be careful what you ask for.

Cry there’s no royal commission
Cry he back flips on his decision
Cry about who he picks for the royal commission he didn’t want in the first place
And look at that, “doesn’t have the full confidence of the Jewish community”
Preparing to Cry when the royal commission says anything less than “kick out brown people”
It’s fucking pathetic.
Have some principles for Australias sake, or shut the fuck up.

“Unthinkable”. Hardly.
Unthinkable would be appointing Thomas Sewell to oversee the process

>“The Prime Minister has been told directly by leaders of the Jewish community that they have serious concerns about this appointment,” Mr Frydenberg said in a post on X.

Then say what those serious concerns are.
Put up or shut up.
