So after months of a complete and utter debacle (including legal advice, 15 appointments, etc), chasing BD insurance re a flood event – I’m moved to the high care team so they can “process my claim faster”.
They send out a cash settlement offer along with a scope of works, only the scope of works is…a dogs breakfast.
Their measurements on one area on which they are supplying their settlement offer is off significantly ie, they measured the room as 6.5m x 6.0m x 2.4m when the actual measurement is 12m x 6.0m x 2.7m…this is only one room of 3 they have wrong.
I bring this to their attention a week ago and call up their “high care team” today, because you know – them contacting you would be unheard of…) and I’m effectively met with a “We have to speak with our assessor to see if we are standing by our quote”….ummm….your quote and settlement offer is manifestly incorrect, when it is based on incorrect measurements!!!!
“Ummm….errrr…..yes, maybe….its not my call….”
Entire process is a debacle – massively so and now they are attempting to short change me.
I already have AFCA, my next move is to email the board – and then contact main stream media to see if they’ll do a story – by emailing the board, they can’t say they weren’t aware of the debacle prior to one of the shows hopefully interviewing them.
Choose your home insurance carefully kids…you might save a little up front, but come claim time…
Photo is mould growing on Lino – that I’ve had to remove, as well as the carpet, the furniture, etc etc etc.

I went with them for a year for car insurance, so restrictive, never again
It baffles me that people use Budget Direct. Sure, they paid off money magazine for an award every year but come on.
I’ve been using BD for years for both home and car insurance, and have started moving policies away due to all of the bad press I’ve read recently.
I need to be sure an insurance company will be on my side, not get into a shit fight with me.
They once told my partner she had to pay upfront for the fixes and send them the bill. Ummmm, no sir, that’s not how this works.
Budget direct are the worst! Had car insurance with them years ago and reported a not at fault accident with them.( Car was hit when parked). When my renewal was up they would not renew my insurance and cancelled it. It is not fun trying to get car insurance after a policy is cancelled by an insurance company absolute dogs.
Rock hit my windscreen. Made a 30cm crack. BD got me into a windscreen shop within a couple of days, windscreen replaced. Even said I could have a courtesy car for the day when I asked.
Their ads exclude them from consideration imo. Petty? Sure but I stand by it.
Might want to crop out the ID at the bottom of the pic.
But they have a Scottish bloke on their ads ( apparently its voted the most trusted accent, absolutely nothing against the Scottish) and they have won so many made up awards???
It’s astounding we collectively pay MPs 6 figures a year, yet we never use them. See your local mp, even if it’s not the one you voted for, and get a ministerial underway. The second his/her office calls BD, the “high care team” will not leave you alone 😍 this goes for everything people. Use the MPs we pay 6 figures a year! Make them actually work for it.
Has anyone had a good experience with insurance? Looking at options for my upcoming renewal
BD can get fucked. I too was lured in by the “good reviews” and cheap policies. All well and good till you need to make a claim, next time it would be easier to suck start a pistol.
Went with one of the supermarket insurance brands years ago for a similar reason to save money on premium as I trusted the name underwriting the insurance and the product looked sound. Come claim time when a theft happened, first claim ever, well their first port of call was denial on basis the location of theft was not on my property (it was in the garage). I appealed that to their underwriting team and went into the fine print, turned out it was just their intention not to cover my event not actually excluded in the wording. So they reluctantly paid out a few months later. Then I closed my policy days after payout. Since then I’ve been with full service insurers.
They literally have budget in their name. You get what you pay for
There’s a few car insurance replies, so I shall add mine…
Backstory:
* I parked at a local shopping complex to collect pizza for the family
* Whilst I was there, a (Qld) police car damaged mine
* They provided all of the necessary details for my insurance
* Included a police report number, as it would, in a situation such as this
* They even breath tested me, as I suspect that if I was over the limit, then this would be a non-issue for them
* I initiated the claim as soon as I got home
In BD’s defence, my car got repaired expeditiously. However…they kept calling me to get me to follow up on getting QPS to reimburse them. Sorry, BD, but that is your frickin’ job – you even have a QPS incident number to use!
Budget direct seemed ok when I claimed before but now they want to charge me $500 more than Allianz to insure.
I’ll be honest they’ve been pretty good with the 2 claims I’ve had to make with them. Both car accidents where my husband was at fault and we lived very remotely. Within a week an assessor had looked at the vehicles (got a quote from our repairer for one and we supplied photos for the other non-runner.), by the end of the second week the vehicles were approved for repair and booked into the repairer. And they looked after us when the paint job on one was shite.
Tell BD they can fck off. Draft the letter to the regulator, send it with clear – this letter goes on this date – to the team you’re working with. Ensure you make it clear you’re going to CC the CEO. (No CEO likes being reminded of their obligations and all CEO’s want problems like this to go away and not become a reputational issue.)
These so-called priority teams are little more than obstructive. But those people still need jobs to put food on the table, so go hard and go up.
Their incompetent detective character in their ads sums up the entire farce of a business.
Are you planning to go to the same mainstream media where they advertise?
Suggest you make a Tik Tok video send it to BD with an ultimatum
