Reminder that, despite any Trump posturing, we’re actually doing this because the US wants us to. The US military doesn’t like the current legal uncertainty of their base. Handing the islands over to Mauritius solves that uncertainty.

  2. It hurts to agree with the orange wanker but on this occasion he’s right. And it’s also not just stupid to hand them over but to do so in the manner we are, paying out of the nose…. The entire thing is baffling.

I mean he’s right…but wish he didn’t say it during a time of advanced dementia alongside all the crazy stuff, otherwise it looks crazy too…

Can the London, Cayman, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Paris hedge funds rugpull this cunts families investments already? I am getting tired of hearing him speak.

He literally fucking said he backed it last year. Looking at the entire vomit of a tweet, he links it to Greenland so clearly Farage, Miller and co have whispered in his ear to link the two, I’m fucking sick of this.

  7. All-Day-stoner on

Didn’t he back this deal to go ahead? Feels like someone is whispering in his ear about this

  8. Labour are a government set for a post war peace boom. They are far to by the book and nice for this chaotic situation

Well, there you have it.  I actually think Starmer has handled Trump well, but Trump is clearly losing it.  If there’s a positive to take, it might be that this allows us to drop any pretences now and to treat the US as the enemy they’re becoming.  The stuff he’s just been posting about Greenland shows he’s not going to let this drop and are not the product of a sound mind.

  10. For those in these comments agreeing with the big cheeto be careful, he will change his mind in a day or two and you’ll look v foolish.

I just wish a day could go by where I didn’t hear anything about that fat orange piece of shit

  12. Funny he was willing to back it months ago until suddenly the UK and Europe clearly says NO about something. He doesn’t care.

  13. On the surface the deal seems a ridiculous act and waste of money and resources

But I do recall Starmer chastising Badenoch at PMQs for calling out against this stating surprise given she has access to the ‘same security briefings..’

This is one of those where there is a non-zero chance there is a good reason this deal is being made as it is and probably a good reason we dont know why

This might be the case or it might not be, but blindly parroting support or disdain for the action without full view of the details might not be the best move

  14. i won’t be paying attention to anything trump does unless he carries out a special military operation in greenland – hopefully he’s just posturing.

  15. it’s all about hiding the Epstein files.

You can analyse the Greenland situation as much as you like but he has successfully distracted everyone from the files that “would hurt my friends”

  16. He’s not wrong. I don’t get why we don’t just sell it to him and wash our hands of it.

We get rid of the islands and get a couple of billion for doing so. Rather than PAY billions for doing so.

  17. I have to admit, it seems incredibly odd to me that over the past few days a bunch of Reform politicians have been bringing up the Chagos Islands in their public statements and saying Trump should be focussing on that instead of Greenland, then all of a sudden Trump comes out with a statement like that.

Once again shows that they’re drinking from the exact same spigot.

  18. USA is now the second Russia. What a wonderful scenario we live in. USA put the world in this mess and they should fix it.

  19. BalasaarNelxaan on

Praised it at the time though.

We shouldn’t be surprised – the orange man baby has trouble remembering what he said yesterday.

  20. The same deal that Trump backed?
He doesn’t even remember that he backed the deal. The USA pushed for this and now he’s having a tantrum because no one wants to support him invading Greenland.

  21. Mango man changes his mind now it doesn’t fit his narrative with Greenland. Shock.

I didn’t follow the chagos stuff closely, but usually whatever a morally bankrupt monster says, the opposite is true

  23. The lease is up. Its not like the UK owns it, they have rented it for 99 years.
For a real estate guy, Trump sure has a grasp on how that works, no?

  24. For historical reference

    https://www.state.gov/u-s-support-for-uk-and-mauritius-agreement-on-chagos-archipelago

    > Today, the United States welcomed the historic agreement between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Mauritius on the future of the British Indian Ocean Territory—specifically, the Chagos Archipelago.

    > We commend both the United Kingdom and Mauritius for their leadership, vision, and commitment to ensure that Diego Garcia remains fully operational for the duration of this agreement. We look forward to working closely with both governments to strengthen our collaboration in support of regional peace and stability.

    >Following a comprehensive interagency review, the Trump Administration determined that this agreement secures the long-term, stable, and effective operation of the joint U.S.-UK military facility at Diego Garcia. This is a critical asset for regional and global security. President Trump expressed his support for this monumental achievement during his meeting with Prime Minister Starmer at the White House…

Kind of hilarious that Trump is having foreign leaders kidnapped and sabre rattling about taking other countries’ territory and our government is behaving like international law has any substance

  26. Helpful-Fennel-7468 on

The fact we handed over valuable territory for essentially being woke is exactly what’s wrong.

  27. Well comrades, I thought I was going to get to 3 full weeks of the year without agreeing with Trump. He was doing so well! Threatening Greenland, tariffs on allies, increased militarisation at home – I really thought I’d oppose his views all month!

Then he goes and does something as sensible as opposing this deal. Does it now mean that the only people in the world who love it work for Sir Keir and President Xi?
