  1. Labors soft landing deserves far more acknowledgement that its received, but things like this frustrate me

    > But it added they needed “more urgency” to fix their budgets and should be more ambitious about climate change, housing affordability, and competition policy

The position held by the oecd and other neolibs on competition policy has led to many of the structural problems our economy has, and stops us from implementing obvious solutions to major problems like energy prices and housing affordability.

If we weren’t wedded to toxic neoliberal ideas of competitive neutrality we wouldnt have privatised electricity generation and system planning. We could have things like a national housing developer that just builds homes we need regardless of profit levels and leverages government backing to reduce risk, reduce cost of materials, and streamline planning approvals. We could just admit that regional telecommunications isnt profitable and that pretending telstra and optus actually compete is a farce. We could directly support and subsidise core industries to provide affordable inputs for more productive industry.

  2. Interesting news, I don’t think there is anything in there that people would be suprised about.

There needs to be a focus on getting your average voter to feel the benefits
