So I live in the U.S., and all I'd ever heard about Vegemite was that non-Aussies probably wouldn't like it. I'd seen prank shows on YouTube where people acted like it was gross. Over and over, I'd heard Vegemite's good name sullied, and finally I thought…I should really try it for myself.
Well let me tell you, I just tried some on toast with a little butter, avocado, Everything bagel seasoning, and a spoonful of Lao Gan Ma spicy chili crisp, and my. Mind. Is. BLOWN. I feel like I've wasted years of my life not eating this stuff. The umami! The savoriness! The sheer bliss!
In case you think I'm kidding, I'm really not. This stuff is absolutely delectable, and I look forward to eating it for the rest of my life. The aftertaste, even! How in God's name does Vegemite have a bad reputation?! This stuff is to die for, and I fully intend to go forth and proselytize, spreading the good news far and wide.
So thank you, Australia, from the bottom of my heart. Also I'm sorry my government sucks and is bent on destroying the planet, but again, thank you.

Welcome to the fold my son. My only regret for you is that you have learned the secret so late in life. So many wasted years
People only hate it cos the first time they try it is in a tablespoon like peanut butter, of course it’s going to be overwhelming, you need to build up a tolerance first, then after many years, you can scoop it out of the jar with your hands.
The bad reputation comes from the uninitiated using it like peanut butter or jam and spread it WAY too thick.
A little good a long way for Vegemite!
It’s also amazing to add to gravy, spaghetti sauce, stews etc for that extra kick.
Glad you enjoyed it. Most Australians have it pretty simply on bread and butter.
But instead of apologising for your government we – and the rest of the world – would really love to see some meaningful action through the democratic processes and actions available to every American.
I know some protests are happening mainly to do with ICE but really the way to turn the tide is at the ballot box. I’m sure you’re all gearing up for the midterms but they’re going to be so incredibly important this time.
Try some with honey on toast, the sweet and salty goes great together.
You can become an honorary Australian with that post
Try it with cheese (cheddar, not that American orange cheese stuff). Unbeatable combo.
The low salt version is well worth a try too.
What is this, a jar for ants?
1kg tub lasts me less than 12 months
Vegemite, some cheese and a poached egg. You will thank me later.
