Sussan Ley has declared her leadership will survive, despite speculation the Coalition split could further damage her hold on the Liberal party.

The Nationals yesterday declared they would not rejoin a Coalition under Ley.

Asked on Sunrise this morning if she can hold on, Ley responds: "Yes, I will".

This sounds similar to Liz Truss going “I’m a survivor, not a quitter”.

We all know what Truss said the day after saying that – “I’m resigning”

  2. If I was Ley, I’d use this as an opportunity to move the Liberals back to a place of electability. The Nats were a anti-science culture war noose around their necks.

After an election if the Libs do well, the Nats will come crawling back if it means being in government or not.

Ley could clean house as some are suggesting, but this precludes the position the party is in. Factions, in particular the evangelical right wingers, will resist any move to diminish their hold on the party.

Its more hard right lurching instead that will take place.

  4. Tehan is probably the most accomplished, a bit too conservative for some but not mad or useless like Hastie and Taylor.

He might be able to pinch some Nats and PHON votes too.
