This should be law – it should be separate from any party affiliation. It doesn’t matter if it’s Labour, Greens, Tories or Reform. If it causes individual MPs to think twice about switching then maybe they should consider their views and allegiances before voters go to the polls the first time.

I do think if an MP switch party, there should be a by-election, no matter what party, I voted for the MP based on what he represent at the election.

There’s been similar defections in and out of the Greens in Bristol changing the balance of control of the council.
People really need to look at the candidates, and candidates need to put more of their personal views into their promotional stuff rather than just party guff.

It is silly that a defection isn’t an instant by-election. The idea you have only voted for a candidate and not a party or manifesto is insane.

I read the headline as ‘Defecation from Reform UK’, it made much more sense and didn’t surprise me at all.

It’s wild how quickly the defector merry-go-round spins these days. If they’re going to demand by-elections for others, they should absolutely be held to the same standard themselves. Otherwise, it just looks like pure political gamesmanship.
