    If it wasn’t Trump, this makes sense.

    I don’t care what moral high ground Canada claims any more when they’re willing to draw closer to China.

    Becoming like China is the worst case scenario for the US. Canada being willing to switch sides so easily to the actual authoritarian dictatorship speaks volumes.

    So basically what we’ve learned here is that without the US as their main bank, Canada needed a new bank to continue with their social programs and lack of defense funding and they were willing to go anywhere to get it.

    Full tariffs from the US perspective makes sense. Canadians will say the US and Trump pushed them to this point, but Carney ran on a platform of opposing Trump and can’t back down now so this was predetermined.

    Did college economics courses change the definition of tariffs from being a charge paid by the importer to some kind of fee paid by the exporter? I must have misunderstood what tariffs are and who pays when I was in school 50 years ago..

  5. I mean I’ll be honest neither is a great choice from a humanitarian or authoritarian perspective. However China doesn’t call our Prime Minister (governor) or threaten to annex or outright attack allies so I’d rather at least take the one who doesn’t cry like a giant toddler and change his mind every second day about “why” tariffs are needed and how much they should be.

    This deal between Canada and China probably wouldn’t have happened in the first place, if it wasn’t for the US putting tariffs on Canada, threatening to invade them and just being a total ass to a 100+ year ally.

  7. So, to stop them from cutting trade ties with us we are going to harm our trade relations with them further by making imports more expensive?

    Thats the art of the deal, I guess lol
