IMO we should just move the public holiday to the last Friday of the school holidays. Surely no one would object to a guarantee of a long weekend each year 😉

  2. I have no doubt that without this protest the authoritarian Labor would still be banning protests across more of Sydney. While they haven’t given up their new found powers completely, in these darker times, this protest is important for us all. For our very democracy.

  3. Then we’ll hear nothing until next year again as For majority of people its simply performative, People just want to feel like they are doing something good by sharing Invasion day posts on Instagram etc but only ever in January.

We’ll end up moving the date and then it’ll become invasion day again, Lets just leave it on January 26th and work on further improving the lives of our aboriginal community.

Thanks for the downvotes simply showing that my point surrounding this being performative is correct.

  4. All this does is leads to division, one side digging its heels in, and us heading in the direction of the USA.

Why not do something reasonable and in between? Keep the day where it is, but include more recognition of the impact on indigenous Australians and reflection upon how we can move forward together — that way it’s a day of reflection as well as celebration.

The problem is this requires both sides of the debate to drop the absolutism — both the side demanding that “Invasion Day” goes away and the side that looks at any sort of recognition on the impact on our Indigenous population as “wokeism gone mad”. Maybe the answer is in between?

  5. Given all the cancelled Aus Day events due to heat, there is a good joke to made here that more people turned out for this.

Not saying its reality or anything, just would be funny

  6. This is only a big deal if you give it attention. Let them ‘celebrate’ how they want.

Notice how no one is asking how many tens of people turned up to those KKK marches they also had today? Because no one is giving them attention.

I was told by the fake ALP commentator on here that interest in activism is on a “steep decline”
