**22nd Nov (1984) The Australian Citizenship Amendment, all Australians ceased being British subjects.** The ‘Nationality and Citizenship Act’ of 1948 only symbolically recognised Australian citizenship.
21st Nov (1918) The Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 was the start of federal preferential voting is not the best, other days are better.
The 3rd March is the best alternative – Australia completely became independent from colonial Britain when the The Australia Act became legal in 1986.
