I congratulate that worker on their bravery. Almost all return to office orders are ill-advised and draconian, and measurably reduce productivity while increasing turnover. I’d say the company FAFO ultimately, and lost a key worker.
Who is paying your money? Employer.
Is there a contract? Yeah but not everything is always followed.
Was it worth the fight? No
Did the employee have any real reason not to go to the office? Probably not.
Employee didn’t like conditions? Fair enough start looking around.
Can employee find a fully remote work? Not these days.
Was employee smart? No. Realistic? No.
After Covid era my employer mandated RTO within 6 weeks.
There were 15 people on the meeting and only I provided my feedback, while others were silent but agreed with me.
Those 6 weeks were enough to get two offers where I wasn’t required to go to the office.
Needless to say that I enjoyed resigning.
Everybody knew why I resigned.
This weird hate boner people have for WFH is sad. Sour grapes to the extreme. Anyway I’ll keep enjoying WFH ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Â
Old mate had a crack and lost, so be it.
But how sad do you have to be, to be happy he lost his job? A reasonable reflection of the type of person you are, definitely a boot licker.
Commuting is miserable, polluting and congests our infrastructure needlessly.
From a traffic point of view, it makes no sense to make tens of thousands come into the CBD of major cities, when their job can be done remotely. There are plenty of us that genuinely need to come into an office. And we would love to not be stuck in traffic for 2 hours or stand packed in overcrowded trains.
Offices are also miserable places and I applaud everyone who can avoid them.
We should all make efforts to work remotely as much as possible.
Good…..1 less useless employee.

Considering his name is in the article (and on other non paywalled sites covering it) I’d say yeah, he’s in for a rough one
