At public school assemblies – don’t see how that is controversial. What I would see as controversial is probably One Nation’s plan if they were to get into government which is for the national anthem to be played each day and students having to stand from their seats 😂

Well this is the biggest who cares I’ve seen in quite some time.

I had to stand at school for God Save The Queen and Advance Australia Fair didn’t do any harm in fact might help improve social cohesion.
Still happens at my kids public school too.
If NT has a lot of indigenous kids and it’s a inflammatory sort of thing to force sing Advance Australia Fair let’s have something indigenous like one of the versus in an indigenous dialect with similar tune and righteous words or something else culturally appropriate I don’t know the answer I’m sure experts do.

and the slow march to natiolistic patri in the west creeps on.
no person in a democracy should be forced to sing the anthem, stand out of respect if u want..but u shouldn’t be forced to sing this
this is some texas level nonsense
what next,a pledge of allegieance,then a school prayer…it’s a very slippery slope..
this nonsense is how it started in america,we had to start signing the anthem every day, then we had to start pledging, then the christians mandated what books are allowed in schools..
Kids know what country they are in,they don’t need to sing to be reminded.

Australians all let us rejoice, for we are one and ~~free~~ FORCED to sing this….

I sang the national anthem at every primary school assembly in the 2000’s. I kinda enjoyed doing it and sung along. Some students thought it was cringe and didn’t sing.
But I don’t get why it has to be mandated by the government? Like, is it so important for education to force schools to play it?

Just give them the updated songsheet please…
Australians all let us rejoice
For we are ~~one and free~~ as divided as ever
We’ve golden soil (taken by mining multinationals and profits sent off-shore)
And ~~wealth for toil~~ wages have been decoupling from productivity for the last 25 years
Our home is girt by sea (just swim between the flags!!)
Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
Of beauty, rich and rare (those damn multinationals took all those too!)
In history’s page let every stage
Advance Australia fair (decision pending)
Then something about “For those who’ve come across the seas, we’ve boundless plains to share.” I dunno, insert your own joke/astute observation for that one.

Ahh yes, this will solve the extreme issues of the Northern Territory! This reminds me of that Oklahoma superintendent idiot who was mandating all the religious shit in schools. It’s just a viscous cycle with education, at some point you need the educated people to bat these loonies away and show them what actions will help.

At one point in SA, we had to sing God Save the Queen, and had to recite a pledge along the lines of:
I love my country,
I honour, her flag,
I serve the Queen,
I obey her laws…
…which is alI remember.
It was accompanied by hand gestures as well, like actually saluting at the flag.

Are they going to arrest kids who don’t sing? Would love to hear the opinion of the “government overreach” crowd on this one.

Does anyone know the breakdown of countries that do and don’t sing national anthem at schools?

Oddly though in Vic it’s played at (some/all?) AFL matches. That’s arguably as bad.
