What are your thoughts on Labor's conservatism while in government?

  1. Labor is led by a guy who dreams of fast trains and qantas upgrades and that’s it. What did you expect?

    EDIT: Oh and rugby games.

Pretty astute, but I think it suffers from considering the party only in monolithic terms.

  3. John Brack makes a great thumbnail , but Labor were always a little centre right to get votes

  4. Pretty interesting write up that I think is accurate – while ALP voters tend to despise critiques from the left of them I think the post does acknowledge their strategy has been successful and the incrementalism piece is the most electorally viable (or that is the position of the ALP)

Many arguments about policy between ALP and further left people on the sub are really not about what might or might not solve a problem but rather what is the politically viable pathway to managing the problem and this is often unspoken but informed by the framework outlined in this post.

For left or right people advocating for policies further outside the neoliberal underpinning to policymaking part of the question is how do you change *the electorate* (or respond to the changing electorate).

Interesting read. I think the extent of Labor’s ambition at the 2019 election might be a little overstated but it’s generally a decent overview

  6. The answer is there’s no need to. Why do anything radical while the Libs and ON fight it out.
