Seems like 7 Republicans too? It’s hard to say since funding needs a supermajority, but even if it’s just two, that’s huge

Edit: CNBC says 7, holy shit

  2. This is the result of the kind of bravery of the people of Minneapolis displayed when their city was assaulted.

the reality is this is a leverage fight over appropriations mechanics not some sudden moral awakening, senate dems are using the must-pass nature of a funding package to impose constraints on ice scope and spend because once that money is in baseline it’s basically technical debt for enforcement policy, it just rolls forward forever. people act like this is chaos but it’s actually one of the few points where congress can meaningfully intervene in the immigration enforcement stack, and yeah it’s ugly, but so is pretending unlimited detention and contracts are some neutral line item instead of a long term commitment with zero accountability.

  4. This is an improvement over last time when seven Dems voted to fund ICE 👀

Show this to all the people online saying “Your protests do nothing, it’s all performative.” Join the national strike tomorrow!

  5. DHS continues to be funded during a shutdown. ICE will still be terrorizing the streets. Another inflection point is coming…

It wasn’t really even blocked by Senate Democrats. It failed to even get 50 votes due to 7 Republicans voting against, let alone the 60 required.

  7. The money has already been allocated for ICE this year. Mainly this is performative but needs to happen clearly. Just be aware they have the money in the budget to operate this year regardless of

  8. Glad the donors, and DNC told our reps it’s ok to defend us for being killed by the gustapo.

  9. Until they roll over in a week. This is meaningless unless it enacts real change. Just like how Schumer said they’d vote on healthcare… and haven’t.

Better late than never. Keep this energy up. We don’t stop fighting the fascist until democracy is restored and criminals are brought to justice.

    What a bunch of bull.

IT needs to be defunded. Schumer right now seems to want to negotiate with them.
