I worked in southern Turkey as a windsurfing instructor in the early 90s. The entire summer was over 42 degrees Celsius and we had a period of two weeks with temperatures of about 48 degrees Celsius. It was, however very dry, even though you could no longer walk on the sand on the beach barefoot without burning yourself. When it’s humid, as is the case in southern Iraq and northern India, is where it becomes unlivable without air conditioning.

I can’t imagine anyone daring to expose themselves to a temperature like that without suffering heat stroke.

That’s about as hot as my tapwater can get, 50-55c. Having accidentally scorched my hands in that a couple times, I can safely say jesus fucking christ that sounds awful.
