That’s a rather scary, but very interesting, article.

I think it’s important to remember that ON only managed about 6.5% at the last election and always under-perform against their polling due to the party’s general incompetence and lack of members to hand out how to votes.

Bonham makes a good point about the possibility that people are feeling that they have permission to support ON. Peter Dutton’s decision to preference them probably had a fair amount of influence here, as it sent Coalition voters a message that ON is an acceptable alternative. This is part of the reason why John Howard and subsequent Liberal leaders didn’t do this.

yeah polling is going to become more complex if this continues, and i am concerned about the rise of One Nation, a part of me wants to say they will possibly be hitting a plateau soon, and while there is a point that One Nation with higher support would be likely to be able to attract some better candidates, but i can’t imagine the stock of candidates would be that dramatically different, because despite the name change, it is still Hanson’s party, and she is going to want any candidate to align with her vision

but there is the other part of me that is worried that this will continue and One Nation will continue to rise rapidly in support, especially when considering Labor is going to be hit this year due to economic factors

pretty much we have to wait and see what happens, i hope the worst doesn’t happen, but i can no longer completely deny it, there is a realistic chance
