>***Fundraising data published today by Elections Canada, which includes all donations up to December 31,*** show Lewis raised $778,869, well ahead of his rivals for the top job. Edmonton MP Heather McPherson stands in second with $415,490 raised by the end of 2025.
Important to note it only shows up to December 31st. I believe Lewis is over 1 Mil and Heather is likely well over 500K at this point.

McPherson maybe should have just said this was where they were when Lewis announced they were at 778K+, I figured she was doing about half his fundraising from the numbers they released in Q1. Her numbers aren’t good but she’s the only one in a position to challenge Lewis (mayyyyyybe, Lewis could quite easily have already sold more then enough memberships to wrap this up)
The real eye opener here is how bad Ashton’s fundraising is, and mostly from a limited number of big donors, Tanille Johnston has more donors.

As has been clear for a while, the race is already over. Lewis will win on the first ballot, and for better or for worse will take the party in his direction.
The real question is what do many of the McPherson supporters decide to do after that? They strongly disagree with Lewis, and I don’t see them sticking around.

Given how much I’ve heard McPherson pitched as someone who can win in the prairies her coming 3rd place in Saskatchewan and Manitoba is surprising. With her being 4th place in BC as well this may just be one of those all too common situations where people say “the west” when they mean Alberta

Great news for Carney and the Liberals if both Lewis wins the leadership, AND Poilievre survives his leadership review this weekend. I don’t think they could ask for more.

In basically every other election, we’ve always talked about fundraising being a strong (though not perfect) tool to look at campaign strength, enthusiasm, appeal, and organizational skill
And yet comments are filled with people saying the opposite here.
Lewis has built a strong moment, shattering fundraising records that Mulcair couldn’t even dream of when he was running for leader: and that was with the official opposition seat on the line.

People have to consider that if he wins, not all of Lewis’ policy ideas will make it to the next election. There are lawyers, academics, and financially literate people in the party structure.Â
We will see some of his platform watered down.Â
We are essentially voting for a ‘direction’ at present. People looks at Lewis and see very clear messaging – reduce corporate influence, invest in public infrastructure, get back in to physically building and owning public housing, etc.Â
Also, to the people who for example disagree with his stance on immigration but broadly consider his vision good, please consider joining the party and expressing displeasure. What the NDP certainly does not need is a bunch of Yes-people packing Riding Associations. If you are pro-labour and are skeptical of a handful of policies, join and make your voice known.Â

I am shocked that Avi Lewis or Heather McPherson has been interviewed on CTV Question Period or Rosemary Barton. Avi used to work for the CBC, so they must remember who he is.
The CBC & CTV News still employ NDP Pundits on their shows but ignore NDP candidates.

This is a reminder how just how small the party is compared to the Liberals and Conservatives.
PP raised almost $10 million in his leadership campaign I believe. And you can’t just dismiss his money haul as rich donors giving more money because he also signed up 311k members.
All the NDP leadership candidates together will probably raise about $2 million by the end of the campaign.

I was told by many folks on this sub, the NDP wouldn’t be able to raise any money during a leadership race.Â
1.6 million is not an insignificant amount considering how small the base is, and how short the race is. There is nothing to suggest the NDP can’t keep the momentum going, and raise more.

Feels like an overperforming from McPherson from where I figured she’d be at, and given the media and endorsement’s he’s accumulated, and under performing by Ashton.
