    >He said CBSA doesn’t currently have the ability to determine if someone is leaving because of an expired visa. McCrorie told the committee it can manually check that on a case-by-case basis, a process he described as “very labour-intensive.”

Holy crap we officially run it on the honour system?

This is so unfair, and quite frankly xenophobic. How dare they do this to people?

Just kidding – How in the sweet fvck are we not already doing this? What is wrong with our government that they just thought of this now?

  3. They don’t even track wanted criminals leaving the country, how are they going to track this.

  4. This is by design and a complete failure to Canadian citizens.

Imagine not having a basic program to run a check on names that have expired Visas.

    This is negligence.

So, most free countries do not have exit controls. We have agreements with the US to share data about Canadians arriving in the US, but when you drive over the border, no one at CBSA is asking why you’re leaving…

  6. The fact that Canada can’t control such a basic thing is blowing my mind. All of these people have to update their driver’s licenses, bank accounts, health cards, insurance, etc. Why not stop this if their visas have expired and they were expected to leave the country a long time ago?

  7. Canada keeps on proving how unserious this country is actually run, behind the pageantry and bravado.

  8. Pretty sure the data already exists since airlines have to submit manifests to the feds. I guess they’re just not analyzing it for some reason?

  9. There’s also a problem of temp residents and international students selling their identities to criminal groups upon exit, who then use those entities to fraudulently obtain bank loans and credits cards. They max those loans out and of course never repay, and then use the proceeds to fund crime. Tracking exits would help prevent this.

Pause immigration and PRs until further notice. In the meantime track down all exits, plus locate half a million undocumented migrants. Until this is done do not resume immigration and PRs.

  11. A lot of countries track all exits of any visitors. Not sure why we don’t. Now it can be done with facial recognition etc

  12. But but…Trudeau said everyone who was not white was a saint and were coming here for the betterment of Canada.

  13. Could she be any more useless at her job? Garbage man says we need to start picking up the garbage. Mail man says we need to start delivering mail. Ridiculous.

  14. Disband the entire IRCC and fire every single one of them. Completely shut the door and rebuild the entire system from the ground up properly. It’s serious negligence on behalf of the government to put Canadians in danger like this. People have been hurt and killed by this willful negligence.

Every minister of immigration that had a hand in this needs to be in jail. There are people that have died that would be still alive if not for these treasonous policies.

We have all the entry/exit data we need. IRCC/CBSA just needs to develop an automatic system which flags any temporary resident who has overstayed their visa. And CBSA can just go arrest and deport such people according to the overstay list. It’s astonishing that we need someone to “manually check” this in 2026.

  16. I’m so glad we have this amazing and brave immigration minister. No one else would have thought of this, certainly not the previous government!

    Good.

All they have to do is scan the passport, register their leave date and see if they do leave.

God I hope they don’t over complicate this and funnel money into a new program.

  18. Wow, this is a real eye opener.

I knew it was bad but this seems like one of the most basic parts of the process even a 5 year old could tell you we’d need, yet somehow we’re only attempting to implement this now?

The ones responsible are deserving of a thorough investigation, this one’s so blatant there’s no way it can be spun as just an “oopsie”, sadly nothing will ever happen to them.

  19. The sheer incompetence of the Trudeau government is astounding. Negatively impacted the futures of millions of people. I’ll forever hate him for that.

Nice to see some adults in the room now, with some common sense.

“Immigration Minister Lena Diab says she wants her department to acquire the ability to track the number of people with temporary visas who are exiting the country.”

    1) How is this not already happening?
    2) She doesn’t really mean it and just hoping that this can happen.
    3) With liberal govt it will take at least 10 years to establish a system like this with a billion dollar paid to Indian IT companies

Airlines have all that data. Just ask them to start sending IRCC in real time. It’s that simple.

  21. Houserichmoneypoor on

They only track people coming in? Do we need an emigration minister and department too?

  22. I’ll never understand people can still be supporting liberals after how broken our immigration system has become. Our beautiful country, we used to have the best of the best coming here and now it’s fake asylum claims and fraudulent student visas.

We have cities calling state of emergency over the massive extortion happening, record high homeless and crime.

    I just don’t understand it.

  23. Lol didn’t immigration, along with every other department but defence just get cut 15%? Good luck squeezing blood out of a stone.

  24. Artimusjones88 on

Holy shit. The fact we haven’t done this is criminal. Hold people accountable.

How hard is it to produce lists of people and their get of dodge dates.

Start sending notices 2 months in advance, 1 month, 2 weeks, if name not on departure list we come looking for you. Include putting those who overstay on a permanent do not enter edict.

The CBSA already does that, maybe they should harmonize information sharing within their dept
