People love Treasurer Chalmers but I’ve never understood why. His record is appalling as Treasurer, even Wayne Swan who took a hospital pass straight out the gate becoming Treasurer just as the Financial Crisis kicked off, has a better growth record on economic growth than Chalmers. Even Frydenberg who was treasurer through the COVID pandemic has a better record.
Normally when you have somebody who fails in politics they are moved on to another portfolio or end up on the back benches but Chalmers can do no wrong. In fact I’ve heard him mooted as the successor to Albanese. People love Chalmers.
