Today, Ukraine carried out its first prisoner exchange of 2026, bringing home 150 servicemembers and seven civilians.

For 139 of them, this return ends nearly three years in captivity, having been held since 2022. More than half of those released were captured during the defense of Mariupol.

Among those coming home is a servicemember of the National Guard of Ukraine, who was taken captive during the seizure of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

  3. Great news, but I worry about the news to follow as the 157 prisoners tell their side of the experience.
