Weird as it seemed to happen overnight at the same time as the hate speech billÂ

Yup and they’re gonna keep getting more popular and eventually they’ll form a government ( state first )

Who would have guessed. Having the fastest growing population in the west since covid driven almost exclusively by migration, combined with the worlds worst housing crisis would end up with the populist right on the rise.

The housing crisis is the single biggest problem for most people so it is linked to most political movements.
There is no quick fix for it, build more homes, stop encouraging using housing as a means to make money.
Reducing migration will bring more pain across the economy but blaming the foreigners is easier than trying to convince vast swathes of people that they won’t be able to sell their house for more than they bought it and how that’s actually good for the country. So you get more people flirting with one nation.
Though probably worth noting that most of one nations growth is stemming from the coalition’s misery. Right wingers dismayed at the state of the main right wing party and not wanting to vote for apparent losers. Labor not as of yet losing much to Pauline.

They have the least support among Gen Z, and not much better for Millennials, the generations most impacted by housing costs. Their support is primarily Gen Xers and Boomers, those least impacted.
Its been falling for the last 7 quarters and is projected to fall further still. Shouldn’t be an issue by election time.

It would be interesting to see if the people calling for low or no immigration would be able to identify the negative effects of that policy once it’s been introduced.

Housing and immigration are not the only reasons for the surge in support for One Nation. If the major parties think it is then they’re going to have problems.
