President Donald Trump is ready to use the U.S. Navy to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz as the war against Iran rages, but providing safe passage to the volume of traffic that typically passes through the waterway will prove challenging.
Global benchmark Brent would shoot above $100 per barrel if the waterway is closed for a prolonged period, Wall Street analysts say. At that level, oil prices could tip the global economy into a recession, they say.

I guess they never heard that producers will just shut down and claim force majeure

More OIL subsidies. Those costs won’t be passed onto Gas Guzzlers.

You can tell this is a well planned well thought out thoroughly detailed administration. I am so proud.

I can’t see any tanker wanting to cross when Iran can fire unguided volleys of rockets at them, that can reach across the entire straight.Â

One of the most incredible successes for Ukraine has been its use of naval drones to effectively disable the Russian Navy. Could Iran use the same strategies to destroy American ships?
… I guess we’re all going to find out.

They’re going to do this by detaching Burkes from carrier escort duty? Because I see no way this could go wrong.
But man, they could really use those LCSs just about now.

Large expensive ships in coastal waters are highly vulnerable to people in sheds converting jet skis to remote control torpedoes these days. That would be a hell of a risk with some very expensive equipment.
Just ask the Russians, how it has worked for them.

Trump probably looking to hoard the world’s oil supply. Venezuela has the world’s largest oil reserve. He’s stealing it. The Straight of Hormuz was ignored when the war began. A few hits in Saudia Arabia and there’ll be a global energy crisis.
The con is on!

U.S. oil prices [have surged](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/06/iran-us-war-oil-prices-brent-wti-barrel-futures.html) 28% to above $86 a barrel this week as Iran attacks tankers, effectively bringing ship traffic through the Strait to a standstill. Brent crude is up 22% this week to $89 a barrel.
Global benchmark Brent would shoot above $100 per barrel if the waterway is closed for a prolonged period, Wall Street analysts say. At that level, oil prices could tip the global economy into a recession, they say.
