Terrain is an under appreciated element in the viability of oil production. The North Slope might seem like an extremely difficult place to develop an oil field, but it’s actually fairly easy because the drilling-rigs can get built so that they can just get pushed around on the tundra fully intact. Similar applies to shallow water with drill-rigs on barges.
Cook Inlet looks to me like a very challenging place to drill wells.
