China has the opportunity here to effectively take control of the straights of hormuz. The US attack on Iran has zero legality and pretty much zero support from any other nation outside of Israel so diplomatically China has some major leeway when providing support.
PRC missile tech is some of the best in the world and is specifically designed to take out US carrier task groups, so closing the straights to US shipping is pretty achievable I suspect. They would only need to supply a handful of YJ-15s to make the US Navy very wary of getting within 500km of the Straights.
Iran has already shown that it will negotiate with non belligerent nations so Europe, Japan etc may well be able to make a deal to allow passage, leaving the US isolated.
