Brands like BYD are becoming a cancer on our roads and I’m not sure why Australians are lining up in droves to get the keys to these sorts of cars. Having these cars en masse lowers the overall socioeconomic image of Australia.

That’s why we need more legacy prestige German brands on our roads. More Porsches, more BMWs, more Audis, more Mercedes, more VWs. The easiest way for this to happen is to cut tariffs on European cars and cut the Luxury Car Tax so the prices are significantly lowered for everyone. I’m glad that this is being given serious consideration by Labor as part of the EU FTA.

This sounds a whole like sticking to non renewable sources to me. What ever happened to getting away from petrol

  3. Good, we shoud be doing what we can to get people on EVs

Making sure we deal with sharks is key

  4. Also he says this but then when it comes time to enforce the customer is SOL. Govt issues a fine, which customers see none of. And dealers tell you to take a hike when you remind them of their obligations under consumer law. Consumer affairs does nothing, and magistrate’s hearings take a year or more to happen. Who can afford a dodgy car for that long?

We shouldn’t need the PM to make a token announcement if the legal system isn’t a basket case

  5. The Australian automotive industry was the flagship of design, engineering, manufacturing, marketing and sales with all other industries needed to supply materials, build and test motor cars benefitting too.

The automotive education industry gave young Australians inspiration to join the industry through trades or R&D and do something real and productive.

If Labor only had the guts and vision to bring back the Australian automotive industry to have all Federal, State, Local governments and any company subsidised by the government to drive Australian made cars we would now have a more certain electric used car market and the Automotive industry would be their flagship for ‘Future Made in Australia’.

  6. Holden was super innovative. Like rounding all of the interior panel shapes so they didn’t actually need to line up.

They only really seemed to pull a nice interior together with the VF.

‘We want Australians to be able to choose from the broadest possible range of vehicles from manufacturers at the best possible price’ – yet NVES restricts imports and allows fines that hurt consumers. Repeal it to restore real choice and affordability.
