The government’s messaging around petrol is confusing AF. Last week we were told not to panic buy and anyone suggesting we ration is fear mongering … but now this from the energy minister?

I’m confused lol.

  1. Watch the actual Insiders interview on YT instead of reading about it on news dot com dot au.

He’s asked by Speers whether people should be working from home like some other countries are recommending. His answer is very nonchalant, says sure why not it’s a feature of the modern work routine and people like it, nbd.

This is Murdoch sites trying to make a beatup of a nothingburger.

  2. Is wilful ignorance back in vogue?

Panic buying in any commodity can result in shortages. If he came out last week and said everything was in short supply losers would rush out to mass purchase fuel.

  3. Of course Bowen backs WFH. As energy minister he’ll do anything to prevent having egg all over his face.

  4. It all seems pretty reasonable if you watch the insiders interview, rather that trusting news.com.au to accurately report.

  5. Tekashi-The-Envoy on

The bloke really screwed the pooch on this one.

Assume this is why his boss went and got a totally separate energy tsar to solve this as Bowen burned his bridge by first calling anyone concerned about the situation a “right wing extremist” – and its just been obfuscation and diversion in every single interview.

Could be one of the single most smug politicians right now

  6. Weren’t paying attention during COVID were you? Hot tip: the governments job isn’t to tell the truth it’s to get you to behave in a way that advances their agenda.

  7. I don’t get the confusion

If you don’t have to use petrol, don’t.

Seems a fairly obvious thing to say at the moment?

  8. Anachronism59 on

Seems logical to me. Panic buying is selfish and WFH encouragement helps to reduce the chance of rationing.

Based on what I see panic buying has gone in cities. Servos are not busy.

  9. Decades of refusal to secure the nation’s energy infrastructure is coming home to roost all in one go. Bowen’s an asshat and fossil fuel necessity denier.

  10. More buffoonery from Bowen always lightens the mood. Gives Chemical Ali a run for his money.

  11. All EV owners are now rushing to tell their employers their EV has mysteriously disappeared LOL.

  12. Really? Is it really confusing to you, OP?

    >The world’s energy sector watchdog suggested this week that Australians consider working from home, avoiding travel, and driving 10 km/h slower to offset a severe oil shortage following the Middle East conflict.

Chris Bowen responds to the question:

    >When asked if Australia should follow the work from home suggestions, Mr Bowen said working from home is a good idea if possible.

Of course it is. Ffs. We’re not in a crisis yet, so that means we don’t need to stockpile our own individual fuel…

but should we be careful with what we use? Of course!

    >“Well, I think that’s a sensible thing to do in any environment, really, you know, work from home has become an important part of Australian working life,” Mr Bowen told ABC’s Insiders.

I really don’t see the confusion. Conserving fuel is a no-brainer in any scenario. Panic buying is causing more need to be conservative.

Rage bait does not help any of us.
