Have you ever been to a MyHealth GP clinic, bought weight loss treatments at health.hub or had a telehealth appointment with Blua?

If so, you were being treated by an operation owned in part by some of the country's major private health insurers.

Since the pandemic, health insurers have increasingly pursued a 'vertical integration' business strategy, which involves investing in or partnering with other businesses along the health service supply chain.

Albo and his mates need to stop this happening. This is going towards US style healthcare.

They need to stop insurance companies buying GP’s.

  2. If Bupa thinks I’ll up my extras cover to get ‘free virtual GP visits’, they’re dreamin’. This is US style garbage.

We already get free in-person GP visits via bulk billing (if you’re lucky enough to find one, it’s getting easier lately though), countless telehealth GP’s via bulk billing (e.g. 13 SICK) and Virtual ED – VVED (if you’re in Victoria).

I’m not a fan of private health insurance (yet I am with Bupa), but something that would make me consider upping my extras cover would be mental health. That’s all expensive now and very hard to reach without $$.
