  1. >Stay tuned for next week’s column: why the Green Party should stop harping on about the whole climate change thing.

It was pretty funny listening to Galloway this morning throw some weasley fastballs for Avi.

“This weekend the NDP chose Avi Lewis as their leader. And as much as it pains me, a Liberal commentator who loves Mark Carney and would never even consider voting anything other than Liberal or Conservative, to say: I believe they have made a terrible error.”

    This is me.

Same idea as: Here’s why Poilievre is too right wing – every lefty columnist in the country.

Don’t forget: Avi Lewis was one of the central architects of the Leap Manifesto, which was not so much a political path forward as it was a call for radical socialist revolutionary action.

I’m a card carrying member of the NDP and I won’t vote for the NDP in the next election because their new leader supports [insert leftist idea that the NDP has supported for decades]

  7. We’re all for inclusion so long as only the people who agree with us are represented politically.

People criticized the conservatives for having maga light pp they can criticize the ndp for choosing a candidate that has no hope when they are in the worst position they’ve ever found themselves in.

  9. I’d give my opinion but I have to wait for everyone else to play their equity cards first.

  10. Depends. He’s the right choice if:

    1. You’re an NDP member so deep in the echo chamber that you have no concept of the political climate in Canada, love his radical, Canadians-last agenda and think this is somehow going to bring on a resurgence of this party.
    2. You’re not a fan of the NDP, and find it hilarious that Erin O’Toole’s Port-A-Potty ads will soon have an orange tint with Avi Lewis’ smirk plastered all over them.

The NDP is on a Kamikaze mission Federally, and that is going to kneecap the ability for the provincial parties to compete. But, hey, r/NDP is happy so who am I to stand in the way of their delusions. The late-stage capitalist screamers think Palestinian flags will amplify their movement in Canada.

Seems like the provincial NDPs in Alberta and Saskatchewan are the most upset about Avi Lewis winning, since his Green Party-like positions will hurt the NDP brand in their provinces.

Personally, I think that’s unfortunate, because the AB and SK NDP have a much better shot at winning than the federal NDP, and those provinces could benefit from having a competitive NDP that can beat the conservatives sometimes.

But maybe this will push the provincial NDPs to further distance themselves from the federal NDP and even rebrand (“Alberta Democrats”, perhaps?). It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

  12. The Country needs a Left wing party that cares about the problems of most people while protecting the rights of minorities.

90% of Canadians are working Class, but are effectively Abandoned by the left.

70% are White but are admonished, ignored and dismissed.

50% are male, but are undervalued, demonized and ridiculed.

I believe everyone should have the same right, freedoms and protections under the law.

But the NDP only care about pandering to fringe groups, and is now only a fringe party.

Canada deserves a Left wing Party that actually works for the bulk of the people and tries to solve some problems.

After the NDP dies, maybe we will get one. It would be nice to have a left wing alternative that values Solutions to peoples problems more than Social influencing and Photo Ops.

  13. I’ve read Lewis’s platform, while so much of it sounds great. A lot of it is designed to help the middle class. The problem is, this has been promised before. It’s easy to say you want to do all this, but it’s much harder to get it done.

Plus he seems very pro high immigration/ foreign students, which is not a popular position in 2026.

One thing I do agree is Canada does need to make some pretty drastic changes. The main thing the whole world needs to accomplish is better wealth distribution. But that’s a fight that will need the US and Europe at the very least to join in on.

Well, my riding went from Orange to Blue and Lewis’ leadership ensures it won’t be flipping back any time soon. Not much choice but to support the centrist Liberals if I want to displace my Con MP.

    Yours, a traditionally NDP voter.

I know this is a Beaverton article but their convention was absolutely insane. I have voted left wing parties my entire life but I think NDP is circling the drain.

  16. MusclyArmPaperboy on

LOL. All the comments from yesterday’s story were from the POV of Conservative voters

*But he’s got a different stance on immigration than my guy!*

  17. They’ll never win so who cares. The party is a joke that only toronto and vancouver hippies vote for.

  18. I thought it was NDP leadership that was terrible but I learned this weekend that they’re just trying their best to appease their batshit insane supporters.
