A Ukrainian soldier who survived 1,138 days in Russian captivity said there were only two days when he was not beaten.

According to his testimony, guards used electric shock devices on him for nearly half of his imprisonment. He says he was beaten on every part of his body, including his genitals. The abuse reportedly continued for years as part of a systematic pattern of torture against Ukrainian POWs.

Stories like his are difficult to read, but they matter because they document what many released prisoners describe: constant violence, humiliation, starvation, and psychological abuse inside Russian prisons and detention centers.
