Republicans Can Slow but Not Stop Electric Vehicles, Experts Say. Trump and Republicans plan to eliminate the federal aid for EVs and reverse emissions rules. US EV sales would take a hit. But experts say market forces and tech progress will ultimately drive a transition to electric vehicles.

The obvious attempt to disrupt the inevitable should be enough to end every political career of all republicans currently serving in the House and Senate
They can still do enough to make sure our industry lags behind the rest of the worlds…smart. /s
Alternative headline: “Trump to give China 4 year head start in BEV race.”
Maybe we can make new investments in oil lamps, copper land lines and buggies.
Smart…. Very smart.
Experts are correct, sort of. Market forces should be the ones to drive this forward not megatons of cash. One of these green initiatives was getting internet, wired not wireless, to rural areas. They’ve spent their billions and not wired anything or hooked up a single customer. Since I am not seeing any sign that the money for infrastructure needed you know charging stations! Has appears I presume that’s a boondoggle as well. And BEV are insanely expensive and are bad in winter. I don’t want EVs to go away. I want this to be driven naturally not stupidly.
If Trump and the GOP do gut EV backing programs, the true driving force will be gas prices. If they stay where they are at or even lower (which they won’t), then EV sales will take a big hit. But if gas prices go up, like they are almost guaranteed to, then EV sales may even climb in spite of Trump and the GOP.
If they don’t gut EV backing *and* gas prices go up, we could see a mass move to EVs but that’s dependant on the economy not diving headfirst into the shitter.
It’s not so much that Republicans are slowing it. They’re just stopping the Democrat acceleration of it. They aren’t doing anything to get in the way of the free market to do what it wants to do. Why is it that everything the Democrats want to do, which of recent history has been a majority, can’t do it without a serious government push? It seems as though the answer to that question is because the desire of it only comes from a minority and the media and government team up as one to force it on everyone.
I feel like there is an alternate universe, where in 2010 the US government leveraged it’s not insignificant power to try to stop Netflix from offering streaming services in order to protect Blockbuster. I also feel like we are gonna kinda get to see how that would have played out. Yay…
I’m sure President Musk will have something to say about this…..
It’s inevitable. The better product always wins out.
