From the article:

Say goodnight to overnight charges: An EV with an 80-kilowatt battery will refill from 10 to 80 percent in about three hours on a standard 240-volt home plug, or four hours from dead-empty to full. Most plug-in hybrid EVs, like the Toyota RAV4 Prime and its 18.1 kilowatt-hour pack, would be able to charge their small batteries in an hour or less.

  1. Seems like overnight charges are ideal for the homeowner. 12 hours for an 80% charge. I’m not driving 100+ mile commutes every day of the week.

I need fast chargers on the highway, so I can refill quickly on a road trip.

  2. The charger used for AC charging is in the car. The thing on the wall is an EVSE (a fancy outlet) and not a charger. Your RAV4 plug in hybrid will not AC charge faster if you give it an outlet with more capacity any more than your laptop will charge faster if you plug it into your dryer outlet.
