Congress Eliminates Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Penalties for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks

So now the automakers have a max penalty of $0.00 but they still have to determine fleet average and report it. IMHO they will be relieved to be rid of the penalties but if they stray too far from the CAFE standards they risk being jerked back in a future administration that wants to re-impose the fines. Maybe we end up with a “shadow” semi compliance? Of course without EVs they can’t achieve the future CAFE fleet standards. Not that many cars get the 65 mpg required in a few years.
