I blame Reagan. That B-List actor who was completely out of it due to Alzheimer’s during his second term.

  2. “Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the (republican) party, and they’re sure trying to do so, it’s going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them” – Barry Goldwater, 1994~

American mainstream Christianity is like the most batshit insane tiny Christian cults one can find here in Sweden. While Christianity and religion at large certainly is problematic, one doesn’t have to do it in a fundamentalist way…

  4. The US has an anti-intellectualism problem. Critical thinking naturally turns people away from religion, but people who want unquestioned obedience prefer religion.

I’ll say. You have some mosques in Michigan blaring a call to prayer at 5 in the morning

  6. The country founded by religious fundamentalists who were so unfun they got kicked out of Europe is plagued by religious fundamentalism? You don’t say.

  7. No shit!

Considering that far too many Americans think the puritans were persecuted out of Europe, when the reality was they merely got a bit of pushback for trying to persecute the non-puritans it maybe shouldn’t be that much of a surprise that this is news to some of them.

  8. Yeah, a lot people don’t like living under the same conditions as the primitive men that made up these primitive superstitions. The only ones that do, haven’t realized that their religions were made up by primitive men.
