The US armed services are already in a recruitment slump. Highest ranking members of the US army have approved recruitment strategies that focus on the multi racial and ethnic and sexuality make up of the military has proven effective. That American ideal is a melting pot, that we come together to be greater then the sum of our part and you get ahead by hard work/merit alone. That resonates with people who serve.
People don’t join the military to feel like real men. Or to be warriors. If they wanna feel that they buy an AR-15 and spend twice what it costs on firearm accessories and marine cosplay gear. Not serve the country.

Man AD already look down on Guard and Reservists for not being full time soldiers/marines/sailors/airmen. Imagine being a 20+ year AD flag officer being told how to be a flag officer by a Guard Major that got promoted to SECDEF because the president liked your TV show. Regardless of the flag officers’ political leanings, they must feel insulted. Hell, as a veteran that did more than SECWAR in my service, I feel insulted that this is even happening.

My entire career in the military was behind a keyboard. We don’t need people in top physical fitness for those roles. The military needs its nerds, too. We need the smart weirdos for cyber, nuclear, engineering, etc roles.
We need women, too. The entire DoD is going to suffer because of these changes. They were struggling with recruitment already, this is going to amplify that bigly.
Trump is giving up our global superpower in every form.
