Trump and the GOP own this. They control three branches and couldn’t bother to be bipartisan to get Democrats to vote for the budget

Republicans in Congress weren’t even in DC to vote on a stopgap bill if the Senate had passed one. The shutdown was the plan, and it sure as fuck wasn’t the Democrats’ plan.

Also, leak the files every day to make him sweat.

Every time Trump‘s around the government shuts down.
Choice-of-SteinsGate on
Instead of cooperating with Democrats to help avert a shutdown, Trump used this opportunity to threaten to layoff more civil servants and dismantle important government services—an ultimatum that he knows will jeopardize American livelihoods.
Trump also insists that a shutdown will benefit him politically, implying that he couldn’t care less about the harm his actions will inflict on Americans and the federal workforce.
But apparently Dems are the villains in this scenario. Go figure…
Trump exploited the inevitability of a shutdown—without any regard for the consequences—to dominate the narrative and blame his political opponents for his own inaction and vindictiveness during this time.
But according to recent polls, most Americans will hold him and the GOP responsible for this result.
The claim that Dems are to blame because they’re demanding that Republicans expand healthcare to “illegals” is an utter myth.
The Dem proposal includes no such thing and merely asks that some healthcare cuts affecting *millions of Americans citizens* be rolled back.
Republicans have consolidated power throughout every branch of government. Trump cancelled a meeting with top Democrats meant to help avert a shutdown, telling them to “go f-ck themselves,” But the GOP is trying desperately to control the narrative and point fingers at their political opponents; choosing to focus most of their energy on politicizing this outcome rather than avoid it.
Sadly, their voters have taken the bait…
Over and over again I hear, “Democrats want to spend your hard earned tax dollars on healthcare for undocumented immigrants.” This is right-wing propaganda that has been packaged and repackaged in many different forms over the years.
The Democrat proposal wants to extend healthcare subsidies and roll back Medicaid cuts included in Trump’s so-called “big beautiful bill.”
There is nothing in the proposal about offering healthcare to immigrants. In fact, undocumented immigrants are barred from most federally funded healthcare programs.
Democrats are not “shutting down the government because they want to give healthcare to ‘illegals!'” They have only asked that Republicans rein in their massive cuts to Medicaid and other benefits that they unanimously decided to deprive millions of Americans of under the guise of some bullshit, xenophobic narrative about immigrants stealing tax dollars.

Remember that shutdowns are the fault of the president. Just ask Donald J. Trump: “when they talk about the government shutdown, they’re going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time. “

I’m wondering whether the government shutdown (and the healthcare funding deadlock) is serving as a strategic lever for something bigger…..
I’m seeing a pattern emerge: a significant push for domestic drug production. Not saying that’s a bad thing, just feels like more than just a series of unrelated events this week:
—Recent messages around supplies like Tylenol.
—Announcement of 100% tariffs on imported pharmaceuticals.
—GSK’s massive $30bn pledge to invest in US manufacturing.
—The emergence of ‘TrumpRx’ into the conversation.
…All while a government shutdown looms over an inability to negotiate Medicaid & healthcare outcomes. A shutdown where one party controls the Senate, House, Presidency and the Supreme Court.

Here is hoping Americans vote in legislators this year that are actually able to get the job done and control the power of the purse vs being sycophants to a loser president. SAD.
