When the government shuts down, Congress members like Mike should be the first employees who lose their pay.

  2. To do that, the bill that reopens the government would have to say that and you think Dems will agree to that? Are they negotiating in the opposite direction? These dumdums.

And what did these people do to deserve this punishment? This will cause multiple bankruptcies.

He is just blathering like an idiot the statute is clear on how that enacted legislation works, there is no way to get away from it and no votes to amend it. The shut down stunt is coming back to haunt him and he is getting desperate. Democratic leadership is not baking down on this one. Their jobs depend on it.

Mike “Tiny” Johnson is keeping Congress shut down for only one reason and it’s to protect his cult leader, dictator wannabe, donny…the PDF File in Chief from the release of the complete unredacted Epstein Files

  6. What about that 17 trillion? Can’t that cover the back pay? I mean, what, about 1 million government employees, right? Even at 1000 dollars a week, it would be like 2 billion dollars to cover everyone. Don’t seem like a lot of money. Even when you think that they misplaced 34 billion dollars last week.

  7. Remember he shuts down the government to protect people like Trump who raped young kids. If there’s no back pays, don’t say that the Democrats did this. No, your team did this Mike.

  8. I can’t believe they think this is a winning message.
    Republicans are so unbelievably stupid.

“We are unrepentant monsters that hold American jobs hostage and everyday the Democrats don’t let us rip health care away from millions, another gets shot.”

    ….

Let’s start by stopping the pay and refusing back pay for congress, Secret Service and ICE and the military. Let’s see how quickly this shit gets fixed than.

  10. Illegal. As per a worker rights bill Trump himself signed in 18. (Can we say 18 now for 2018 ?). What’s even worse is Trump inferred that “some” useless (aka enemy) employees won’t and his “friends” will. How will that work exactly.

Trump cannot give back the money he stole from ACA subsidies and Medicare limitations. He cut taxes and the running deficit already exceeds Bidens. If he does he will +1.1 T$ the deficit. But he is stuck with the fact that he cut hugely from a program that is widely used by left and right (even as they claim to hate “Obamacare”).

His only option will be to cut something else. He can’t do military. His choices are limited.

But the shutdown has to end. So. Place your bets…

  11. Seems like if the Republicans successfully ripped back pay away from furloughed employees, not only would they totally own that, but the democrats could run on the platform of, “when, not if, we get power back, you will get the money you’re owned.”

Flap your lips all you want. They are in a union. They’ll get paid. For whatever reason, they are fear mongering.

Good – this should purge the entire Federal workforce of any remaining respect for Trump. Now he has close to a million more people plotting against him.

And yet when I read a front air traffic controllers don’t show causing massive flight delays, our media ignores the fact that multiple republicans had just floated the idea of never paying them.

  15. If people don’t get back pay, why not just stop showing up? Looking at air traffic controllers.

You’ve worked what, 2 weeks or so in the last 2 months? Must be nice to barely work and concurrently screw the public. Up yours, Johnson. Government employee or not, people don’t tolerate working without pay.

  17. I hate this administration. There is only one other person I have hated as much as this administration and it is the person who destroyed my childhood with abuse

  18. CharlieBravo74 on

“Do as we say or we’re going to financially wound thousands of people” isn’t the argument they think it is.

This is terrorism, hostage taking. The next thing you know he’ll start shooting one furloughed worker every hour and tossing their bodies out the window until their demands are met.

  19. nobodyisfreakinghome on

They want to keep blaming the dems and now doubling down. They want people mad at the dems so they can have their stupid civil war.

  20. bananastand512 on

Why? I thought we were bringing in *trillions!* with tariffs from the “tariff shelf”… surely that money can cover their back pay. Unless…. 👀

  21. TheAwesomeMan123 on

*Laws existing that directly contradict your BS

Mike Johnson: I’m just gonna ignore that

  22. That’s insane. Name and verbally shame these MAGA supporters. Our government is in chaos. From airline crashes, ICE thuggery to farmer bailouts etc. This administration is a travesty.

  23. Bishopjones2112 on

Because they quietly removed that from all doctrine. So now you are sending unpaid military to act on your own soil. This sounds like the ussr right before collapse.

  24. Current law requires backpay.

A budget bill that changes that provision will never get passed.

  25. Then please elaborate on just why any of our politicians are being paid during the shutdown.

  26. I_like_Mashroms on

Not only should furloughed employees get back pay, they should charge/fine every member of the house DAILY during a shutdown as punishment for not being able to fulfill their elected duties.
