Just a quick introduction – I’m Awsaf, the founder of SmartSwitch Energy (registered as SmartSwitch Ltd) . www.smartswitchenergy.co.uk
I’ve worked in the energy industry for many years and I’ve seen the dodgy practices, hidden tactics and hidden fees that big brokers use to scam small business owners across the UK.
Due to my personal beliefs and religious beliefs I simply couldn’t continue working at this Broker and I handed in my resignation, with my official reason being “The companies values does not align with my moral and religious values”.
Whilst I was searching for jobs, a family member came to me, as they recently bought a new cafe and there was a huge bill from the previous tenant dumped onto this family member. I, of course helped them out and managed to prove to the supplier that this is a new tenant moving in and the debt was written off.
From that moment, people, friends, families, recommendations would come to me for help with issues like this, so I started off as a watchdog for the energy industry I guess you could say!
From there, I decided to set up my own energy broker. If I was helping people daily, maybe I could make a living from it too!
This was back in June and since then my business had gone from strength to strength. But our main service that I always push, is the free help and advice for business owners – whether you’re our customer or not, whether you become our customer or not, we will still help you because it’s the right thing to.
I’ve called out brokers and energy companies many time on my personal LinkedIn, social media and company LinkedIn (SmartSwitch Energy)
Not only do I want to do the right thing, but I’ve also seen first hand how the “big boys” love to prey on small business owners as my dad has struggled and worked hard for many years, building up his own restaurant.
If there’s any small business out there that needs representing we’re here. If there’s any small business out there that feels like they’ve been done wrong or scammed by the energy industry we’re here.
We’re here to prove to everyone that we’re not just an energy broker. We’re actually fighting back against the energy industry.
On the side, I’m currently putting together a plan to get a regulation passed – make it illegal for energy brokers and companies to use auto renewal clauses hidden in contracts.
