  1. The descent into fascism is completely unambiguous in the US right now, that’s why there is consensus about what is sometimes a difficult evaluation to make since “Fascism” is not a well-defined term. But the parallels with Fascist ideology and policies in 1930’s Europe are unmistakable. It’s not the common partisan political rhetoric that is always trotted out during election cycles. Trump is giving historians literally hundreds of years of future research fodder.

  2. *”Opposition media outlets aren’t being shuttered,*”

No, they are being bought outright by billionaires who are aligned with Trump’s ideologies. Look at the recent purchase of CBS by Larry Ellison’s son, David Ellison.

They are reportedly preparing a bid to purchase Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of CNN.

Wherr can we find reliable information after all this?

  3. The US has never supported fascism. Trump lies when he says antifa (anti-fascism) is the enemy.

    >this is no longer America

Lol. Yes it is. This country has always acted with absolute violence towards migrants and people of color. It has always gone outside of its own laws to murder people it feels are a threat.

Trump doing away with all these illusory guardrails isn’t some aberration, it is the logical conclusion to the path this country has always been on.

If you know anything about American history, this is what america has always wanted to be.

People were sounding the alarm about this back in 2016. A current historian and expert on fascism wrote an article declaring this fascism in 2021. We know. Everyone knows.

Also…this is very much still America. We’ve been at least fash-curious if not fash-adjacent for a looong time. It’s totally on-brand and took a lot longer than most people probably expected, but not at all surprising.

  6. Stop with the “THIS IS NO LONGER AMERICA”

This is what USA always was. Hypocrisy, Corruption, GasLighting and so good at each of them, that even some of its very citizens are shocked and awed by the current events.

Minorities have always known, but the Majority never listened. Other countries have known and are enjoying watching the US repeatedly punch it’s own face.

    >this is no longer America

I would argue that this has always been america, the america that pushes right-wing dictatorships in other parts of the world, the america that illegally occupies countries, the america that sends weapons to genocidal countries such as Israel.
The only difference now, is that that violence and authoritarianism is now directed inwards instead of outwards.

No longer America? If you were capable of becoming this, then yes this is America. Americans need to face up to it and change.

Enough of the “we’re too good for this” American exceptionalism. Admitting mistakes and fixing them makes you better.

  9. Of course it is America, what a pathetic thing to say. The kind of thing that leads you here. He’s the ultimate American.

  10. When I was younger and we’d learn about history, I’d wonder how a country, and its people, could be so stupid as to let people like Hitler and Stalin takeover.

I no longer have those questions, as I have all the answers I could possibly need.

  11. If it was always possible to destroy the foundations of American democracy this easily, then they never had one.

  12. Don’t invoke Comey’s name. His injustice to us—that he has only defended—is greater than the injustice done to him. In fact, it’s a byproduct of his misogyny

  13. “This is fascism, and millions of us see it”

I don’t think anyone believes Americans aren’t *aware* of what’s happening. People think Americans are aware and avoiding action.

  14. > this is no longer America

That is some give up shit. We’ve detected cancer early enough to cut it out.

You may have to tell your MAGA family to wake the ef up and stop voting for rhetoric that their ‘news’ station pushes.

Fight for America or allow BRICS to dictate the direction of humanity.

“When fascism comes to America, it will be carrying a cross and wrapped in the flag.” Upton Sinclair, I think

Yep. Civil War is coming. It is not going to be like the last one. This one will be bombing and just straight up violence.

GOP wants to see it happen so they can go harder.
I don’t expect the USA to be a countey in 10 years or more so a shadow of itself as multiple states will leave.

  17. They’ve seized control of the country and, in the process, destroyed everything that made it attractive in the first place.

  18. What is even sadder is that the American people are pretty ok with living under fascism. Majority of Americans are just going about their lives just like they did 12 months ago.
