In what had been described as a “massacre,” hundreds of scientists at the CDC were fired on Friday, including 70 Epidemic Intelligence Service Officers, other high-ranking scientists, and the entire Washington office. In total, more than 4,000 government positions across multiple agencies were eliminated in Friday’s layoffs.
Now, as both The New York Times and The Washington Post report, the government is attempting to rescind some of the layoff notices as they were apparently sent in error.

  2. If this was any other administration they’d be calling for an impeachment. I don’t understand how so many people can look the other way or not knowing what’s happening or not giving a shit.

The country is being run by some of the dumbest, most self-serving people on the planet.

Who get away with massive corruption and incompetence because they keep their supporters frothing at the mouth at anyone who isn’t a white, Christian, conservative, heterosexual male.

  4. “Inept administration that doesn’t understand anything shocked to discover that its actions have consequences.”

    Idiocracy seems tame, in retrospect.

It’s sad when an administration can’t even fire people correctly! Like use your HR department….oh wait….carry on idiots!

  6. The scientists responsible for containing an Ebola outbreak from spreading beyond the country of Congo were fired.

    Are we winning yet?

How do you “accidentally” fire a bunch of people all at once? You don’t “accidentally” drive your car through a crowd of people, unless you intend to kill them. The lying these people do is astronomical.

  8. The incompetence is being used as cover for the fact that they want to gut all these age agencies

  9. Pretty sure this has happened before and they had to frantically hire all their old hires again…

Again? Are they somply causing chaos to distract from something else? The CDC is on the block due to P2025 no matter what.

  11. Even if they were accidentally fired, they should still be looking for other work, IMO. There’s a reason they were “fired”, perhaps they’re slated for removal in a later wave? Their names must be on some purge list.

  12. Just a bunch of the dumbest motherfuckers to ever live in charge of everything. Super cool.

  13. Once this is done, we need to make steps to make sure we never have leadership like this again.

  14. Let me guess. Fired a bunch of women and minorities for DEI reasons. Those are probably the best scientists they have. They should ask for a big raise to come back.

  15. How the hell does one fire so many CRITICAL STAFFERS just by ***accident*** ?

There’s something seriously fishy going on… And Trump probably fired all of the oversight.

  16. What an absolute non-stop fkn shitshow 🤦🏻‍♂️

Most embarrassing and shameful timeline in modern US history – by a long shot

  17. Bit of a shame really. This was the big chance to cleanse your gene pool from the stupid people in the next epidemic. Now those scientist guys are going to want to safe “lives” again. Ugh.

  18. I’m imaging the people in HHS HR getting the orders to “Fire ’em all”, taking a moment to consider telling Miller and Vought what that actually means; i.e., pointing out other mass firings in other agencies that didn’t go well, looking at each other and saying “f it”. They sent out the lay-off notices knowing they’d be spending the next week rescinding them.

Job security for HR; bad look for Trump. Win-win.

By this time, every federal employee knows the drill. Do your job, keep your head down, copy everything onto a flash drive, work your network, and have a go-bag ready.

  19. Who would even want to take their job back at this shitshow? There’s absolutely 0 job security when you’re a scientist and Trump and RFK are your bosses. Imagining signing a lease or buying a house in DC and then ending up on another purge list in 6 months. No fucking shot I would take this job back if I were them, it will just be unending stress and frustration for them
    At best.
