A federal judge in Virginia has denied a Justice Department request for extended discovery deadlines in the criminal case against former FBI Director James Comey, ordering prosecutors to provide all discovery materials to the defense by 5 p.m. today, October 13.
Comey, who led the FBI from 2013 to 2017, was indicted on September 25 in the Eastern District of Virginia on two felony counts: making false statements to Congress and obstruction of a congressional proceeding.
Newsweek reached out to the Department of Justice for comment via email outside of normal office hours on Monday.
Imaginary bullshit political case has no substance, imagine that.

Okay, number one, Your Honor, just look at him, and he talks like a *** too. And “B,” we’ve got all this, like, evidence… of how, like, this guy didn’t even pay at the hospital. *And I heard that he doesn’t even have his tattoo.* I know! And I’m all, “You’ve gotta be shittin’ me.” But check this out, man.
Judge should be like, “Guilty.” Peace.

I cannot help thinking that opening the door to prosecuting officials in former governments is not a step they want to be taking.

All of the things that Comey is being accused of sound like things Trump’s lackeys have been doing.

I’m very confused as to why this is being prosecuted under Trump. If he had in fact been the one to instruct an underling to report to the media that they are investigating “Person 1” [Hillary Clinton] why would it be beneficial for republicans to have that out in the open?

This is funny because Lindsey “Insurance Lawyer” Halligan brought suit in the Eastern District of Virginia because she thought it would be a more friendly jurisdiction than DC. No one told her it’s the “Rocket Docket” jurisdiction, and the judge there isn’t going to bend over for all her delay tactics.
Comey: “Speedy trial now, please!!”

Republicans don’t care or even want this case to proceed. The current situation gives them three things they need.
1. Their base is already locked in with the talking points of Comey being indicted.
2. It further terrorizes and intimidates Trump’s political opponents
3. When the trial doesn’t proceed, Republicans will just blame “activist judges” committing an insurrection against the Trump admin

When they toss this case outta court, I hope James seeks to have Donald’s hellish lawyers disbarred for bringing a frivolous case.

Judge will see right through this bullshit of how Trump took one of his personal defense attorneys and gave her a temporary appointment to go after a political rival
She has 0 experience as a prosecutor, and she’s already tripping over herself and unprepared. Her predecessor didn’t want to proceed due to a lack of evidence, and Trump fired him.
So what does she do? She files anyway….without adequate evidence. Then asks a Judge for an extension to go find some evidence?
She should temporarily lose her license to practice law for knowingly wasting everyones’ time

The wider concern here—with all the missteps and errors—is that this is how the inexperienced, incompetent ideologues are handling actual criminal cases. People who should be in jail are going to be set free because the fascist administration is more interested in petty personal politics than in protecting us from criminals.

Something that I just never see in news and analysis is just how much Trump has gummed up our justice system.
Since he took the national stage a decade ago, it feels like there’s been a story every day of people, groups, and States filing lawsuits against him and people in his administration, and Trump and his team filing BS lawsuits against other people.
There are only so many hours in a day, and these are real lawyers, judges, clerks, bailiffs, administrative staff, and juries who have to process all these suits.
I cannot fathom the tens of thousands (if not more) “normal” suits – between regular people, small businesses, municipalities, etc – that have been delayed due to the urgency to process all of these Trump suits, and what that has done to countless Americans’ lives.
