  1. News snippet: Congress remained deadlocked on legislation to reopen the federal government, as the US Senate on Tuesday again rejected a Republican plan to end the government shutdown that began two weeks ago.

The eighth Senate vote to advance a Republican bill that would fund government operations through 21 November failed on a 49-45 tally – far short of the 60 needed for advancement in the chamber. In a sign that that there has been little if any progress toward ending the stalemate, no senators changed their votes from the last time the measure was brought to the floor, though there were a handful of absences.

Republican Senate fails to reopen government as they can’t come to agreement with the Republican Congress or Republican President.

  3. Mike we know why you shut things down. Release the Epstein files and let’s get the show going.

Johnson’s son must be getting near constant alerts on his app to say his dad is wanking off in delight over this.

  6. We’re 2 weeks into a shutdown over a bill that will only fund the government 5 more weeks.

    Fuck it!

Keep it shut down until we elect some adults.

  7. here’s a fun scenario. The republican plan funds the government at current levels until Nov 17th. What happens if the shutdown lasts until then? It would kind of be a moot point then and the House would have to come back into session to vote on a new CR right?

The Presidency, the House, the Senate, and the Supreme Court, and who is driving this shutdown again?

  9. Sub headlines here should be OG ACA is actually horrible and that these subsidies are what made it work….almost as if we had a public option then healthcare would be affordable. Oh shit well. Guess neither party will actually work to improve this but rather kick it down the road again.

And yes both parties. Democrats have the republicans by the balls politically yet are truly not hammering this situation properly.

Walk back ICE funding, CDC restoration, removal of RFK, etc they really could be going for it but they’ve settled on healthcare which I’m grateful but it still really is that oh shit ACA in its original form is trash and Bidens expanded subsidies made it work better so that’s what we’ll do. Underlying problems still abound.

  10. Dems really need someone meaner than Schumer, someone who understands the gravity of the moment and can piledrive home the fact that this shutdown is happening while the Republicans control *all three branches of government.* The best rhetoric he could muster was “slap in the face” to American families. Scorching.

Republicans have done absolutely no work towards resolving the issues. They are not serious.

  12. Islandboi4life on

better to have the government shutdown instead of having congress to pass a bunch of conservatism as law

  13. I suspect that republicans will keep the gov shut down keep shouting their rhetoric against Dems.

While people lose their Healthcare, jobs, and fall into despair, they will protest harder and Trump will use that to push the Insurrection Act and maintain power. This is in the P25 playbook.

Troops will be loyal to whomever is paying them. Same with farmers who will accept trumps bailout. And so on and so on. There’s a reason the DOJ is demanding voter data and building a weapons registry. Call me crazy but prove me wrong.

  14. So the republican controlled senate rejects republican plan?  That’s what this should say right?

  15. Serious question – have any of these proposed bill to end the shutdown actually changed? Or are the republicans just running the same bill out there every time? I haven’t read the article.

  16. All according to plan. I believe this entire thing was all to shut down programs meant to help trans folk. And by the time the smoke clears, and the government boots back up, take note how those programs will be left out of the sequence.

  17. Where are the ratings agencies in this? Downgrade this banana Republic by one notch for every week the government is shut down

  18. Deceptiv_poops on

They’re working on finding a way to open back up without letting democrats back in also. I don’t know constitutional law, so I feel at least as qualified as this administration to speculate on this

  19. The Democrats need to be hammering Johnson and the GOP House so much more. The House’s job is to pass a budget that can get 60 votes in the Senate. They have not done that. Full stop. They have not done their job yet, but instead of working on that job, they refuse to even come back and negotiate. Johnson has willfully abandoned the American people and is choosing to keep the government shutdown.

  20. humanity_go_boom on

Republican controlled senate does the exact same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

Either negotiate or use the nuclear option.

  21. “If this administration has $20bn to spare for a Maga-friendly foreign government, they cannot turn around and say we don’t have the money lower healthcare costs here at home,” Schumer said, calling the move a “slap in the face” to US families.”

  22. Are the fucking democrats actually doing something!? I never thought I’d live to see the day they grew some fucking balls.
