This is all completely normal, right?! No Congressional oversight, no historic commission involvement, no report on condition, needs or plans. We don’t even have blueprints of a new building. Just the whims of one man. And the East Wing is just a symbolic representation of what he’s doing to our democracy. Torn down for golden idols.

  2. July 31, 2025, Donald Trump: It’ll be built over on the east side, and it will be beautiful. It’ll be views of the Washington Monument. It won’t interfere with the current building. It’ll be near it but not touching it. And pays total respect to the existing building, which I’m the biggest fan of. It’s my favorite. It’s my favorite place. I love it. But they’ve wanted it. And you know, when they have big events, you entertain the president of China or the president of any place…..

  3. I like that no one is stepping up to preserve this historic building, one that predates all of us.

On July 31st, Trump said of his ballroom: “It won’t interfere with the current building. It’ll be near it, but not touching it, and pays total respect to the existing building, which I’m the biggest fan of.”

    Right now-
The entire east wing of the White House will be demolished in days.

He’s going to replace the White House entirely with a new Presidential Palace. Watch it happen in rapidly unfolding steps.

  6. This isn’t something you do when your housing situation is temporary. If you’re only going to be staying somewhere for a set amount of time (like 4 years) in a building you don’t own and have to vacate when that time ends, you don’t do things like tear down an entire section of the building and put up a new massive addition so you can have parties with your friends. He’s basically showing us that he has no intention of leaving.

  7. Its almost as if everyone who should have checks and balances over the office of the president has been horribly compromised.

Isn’t the white house our house? We need to stop talking about the problem online and move to solutions IRL

  9. I’m pretty sure he is doing this so he can eventually claim it belongs to him and his family after he is inevitably dead and buried.

He’s making a big deal of having it paid for by himself (meaning, his cronies) so he can claim it was not built by the government, so thus he outright owns it. It will be connected to the White House by some kind of glass bridge thing so he can claim is not “part” of the White House, just “adjacent” to it. He then will come up with some way for the land under it to be leased to Trump Co. for $1 a year for one thousand years.

He will rent it out for national and international functions at ridiculous rates paid for by our taxes. That way, the Trump family will always have their filthy little fingers in the pot and will forever be part of the White House grounds.

  10. This is going to end with him tearing it all down and creating a palace like the Kremlin isn’t it?

What is taking so long? Hurry up use the West wing for excavators. What dictatorship looks like.

Why isn’t anyone doing anything? Watching this get worse and worse is not a strategy.

  14. Mark my words. They will find dry rot, or asbestos, or lead, and say, “Welp, we’re gonna have to raze the old girl and start over.”

Trump will rebuild the whole thing in his image. I’m picturing Biff’s tower. An incomprehensible loss…

  15. He’s just a narcissistic maniac who wants to make his mark. He loves buildings with his name on it and will want it to be known as the Trump Ballroom. It’s not about him staying there or not, it’s about putting his stamp on the place. People really overthink Trump. It’s not some 3D message about him staying or leaving.

  16. Heads need to roll over this. When the time comes demolish this atrocious manifestation of Trump’s distain for democracy.

  17. ELI5, how can a project of this magnitude be designed, funded, and go for bid all within 10 or so months?

This is so embarrassing. These people have surrendered their power to a septuagenarian with the self-control of a 4-year-old and the world’s most fragile ego. I truly do not know how they get even a moment’s sleep knowing that they are sitting by while this country gets sold for parts to supervillains. I can hardly believe this is real life and not some fucked up fever dream. They haven’t killed my hope yet, but damn I am tired.

  19. I know this is absolutely meaningless considering the direct harm he is causing the citizens of this country and of the world, but this is just fucking crazy. How is he allowed to completely demolish a massive part of one the most iconic landmarks in America and is “the people’s house.”

  20. Just less that we have to burn down when we finally get that criminal out of there.

The whole White House is tainted now. We should knock it all down and build a new legacy. This one has too much stink on it.

  21. Has anybody else seen the plans? The White House is about 55,000 square feet. The new proposed plans for the ballroom are 90,000 square feet. It dwarfs the White House. All in the middle of a national shutdown. Come on people.

  22. I seriously think we are witnessing the downfall of the United States of America. I really don’t believe we are going to make it, as a country, through the next 3 years of this. Made it 250 years only to fall to fascism to a dumbass reality tv star.
