While I’m not too keen on some of his policies, we really need a candidate that has the “Fuck em all” mentality towards MAGA Republicans

I only know two people who don’t like him and they both voted for Trump. That makes him a good choice in my mind.

Unless an outsider candidate with charisma emerges he seems to be the clear front runner
LividTacos on
I mean, at this point I think its either him or Pritzker. Obviously we’re 2.5 years out from the primary season, and a lot can happen in that amount of time, but these two seem to be the ones cultivating the “Fuck MAGA and Trump in particular” messaging we need.

This is really the best answer he could give. So much can happen in 2 years.

I really hope the left warms to this guy. Not only is he a skilled politician who could win, he’s earning it by being a lone voice in the wilderness right now, taking on trump. Don’t forget, progressives, he’s the father of gay marriage, introducing in it San Francisco way before there was any popular support for it.

It’s too early. And if you’re gonna invite right-wingers to your podcast, then offer some pushback instead of dickriding. The guy personally tore down homeless camps for a photo-op, left agriculture unions high and dry, recently tried to evade the Israel question, and has signaled a willingness to throw trans people under the bus. He’s another corporatist. I can give him credit where credit is due, but he’s an opportunist and a corporatist. I’m not asking for a hardcore lefty, that would be cool, but someone who doesn’t cozy up to the donor class, doesn’t give Israel free reign, and doesn’t displace homeless people before a concrete permanent solution for them is in place is the bare minimum.
Pritzker is looking like a good option, Beshear is as well. But again, it’s still too early. Skeletons can come out of the closet, others can rise up, and certain issues will come up that will test anyone hoping to run in the future. What’s clear is the next choice must be someone willing to push AIPAC and DMFI to the side, offer some kind of sweeping change to the status quo, address housing and healthcare, and put affordability, labor, and human rights to the front or we risk either losing or winning only for 2032 to bring us a bigger nightmare than 2024.

The angriest candidate will win the primary because the base is angry.

Unfortunately, his waffling on basic human rights has already made him a non-starter for many, many people.

It’s between him or JB Pritzker.
That’s it.
I don’t think Newsom realizes how popular Pritzker has become the last year or so when he went national with fighting back against Trump

Now who really asked this man that question? Newsom has been a 2028 contender since 2023.

I support anyone who is vociferous in their opposition to MAGA. We need a fighter. Yes, I would prefer someone who is further to the left, but we are well beyond the time where policy purity is at the top of the list.
As a lesbian, I also believe someone who is less outspoken on LGBT issues would be better for us, not worse. The Republicans have very successfully used this as a wedge issue and have pulled this country backward by decades. We can’t and should not try to fix that in a 1-2 election cycles.
I am part of local political groups focused on LGBT issues and we all agree that this is not our time to take the limelight. I am well aware that our perspective is the minority position among LGBT, but I think it is the most reasonable one to hold in today’s hostile political climate. I am friends with transwomen and even they support Newsom if that is what it takes to beat the GOP.

As of right now, the candidate i feel strongly are running are : Newsom, AOC, Whitmer, Mark Kelly, Harris & Jasmine crockett. I also expect about 10 other candidates to run, give or take.

Anyway, I wouldn’t vote for anyone who remained silent until the minute to declare his/her run for the primaries.
