MAGA Republicans: “Anything we can do to get assets out of the hands of the filthy undeserving poors and into the hands of our wealthy idols “

Republicans created the mess before ACA. Nixon created the Healthcare industry as we know it today. Republicans created Death Panels.

I’m sick and tired of seeing this “Republicans making it worse” crap. When are the people just going to admit that it isn’t the fault of one party, its both of their faults. The sooner Dems and Reps just sit down and talk like civilized people, the faster we can get back on track. Its not that hard.

Prior to the ACA, over half of people in bankruptcy were due to medical debt and over half of those people had health insurance. So, implementing a system that gets more people health insurance was never going to be a complete solution to debt. It at least got more people health insurance, and the subsidies being fought for are important. In my opinion, the flaw was trying to solve the problem with a market based, private insurance company solution. This solution was out forth because it was developed by the conservative Heritage Foundation and tried by Mitt Romney in Massachusetts. So, it was meant to get Republican support in Congress. But, of course, Republicans were going to reject any option-even one of their own making. The ultimate solution to health care delivery and debt is universal single payer. No citizen goes without coverage. Our current premium dollars paid by employees and employers goes to the universal system. The billions of dollars that go to insurance company salaries, bonuses, corporate events, company palaces, and duplicate roles and regulations stops getting wasted and goes into patient care. Its completely garbage that we can’t do this in the US when other countries can. On the contrary, we should be the country that absolutely can do it. The people need to demand it because the current system has failed and continuing to feed the current system only prolongs the pain for our citizens.

I do have some things I’m curious about it doesn’t seem like anyone is talking about.
I understand the Democrat’s reasoning on trying to force the Republican’s to extend the ACA subsidies in the budget so that people’s premiums don’t shoot up 30%-50% but… why are premiums so high to begin with?
Doesn’t a taxpayer-funded system for subsidizing the high cost of healthcare just charge us the same money on a different balance sheet? Sure it’s being averaged over a larger group of people so the individual burden is lessened, but the opportunity cost of that money not being able to go to something else like infrastructure or education still exists.
Why do we allowed insurance companies to charge these crazy prices and constantly increases premiums without any oversight or justification?
Before ACA there wasn’t a single healthcare company in the top 30 fortune 500 companies. 15 years later 40% of the top 30 Fortune 500 companies are healthcare. Seems like this has been a really great thing for them, but less so for us?

As someone who lives in Canada, it will never not be insane to me that individual medical debt is even a thing.
Y’all are the richest country on the planet! Wtf is wrong with Americans?

I see TV ads frequently where a parent of a sick child finds out that a charity will cover the cost of their kid’s medical care, and the parent bursts out in tears and is so grateful.
You only see those TV ads on US channels. You don’t see those ads in Canada, or the UK, or France, or any other wealthy country. Because they all have universal health care.

Was leaving my bartending job over a year ago when a drunk driver hit me from behind on the highway going over 100MPH and destroyed my motorcycle after dragging it over 3 miles. Not only did they never catch the guy but got over $100,000 of medical debt (luckily found a non-profit to cover it) and still paying off my destroyed bike. Fuck Republicans because I got so lucky with the non-profit and the ability to move into my mom’s place where I could get assistance living for the 4 months of recovery and not have to worry about rent. That crash would be a death sentence for most and that maddens me more than anything that happened to me

No surprise here. Republicans make *everything* worse. And then blame everyone else (especially the other side) when they fuck shit up. And voters here are unable to remember anything beyond a single political cycle.

The US medical crisis is a direct result of Republican policies that prioritize profits over people. Shameful

It’s insane how Republicans keep gutting the ACA while pretending medical debt isn’t a national emergency—meanwhile, families are one ER visit from bankruptcy. Time to fight for single-payer before they turn healthcare into a full-on oligarch playground.
