Probably a mixture of that and horse hair plaster and other funky shit. I mean, it was constructed in the early 1900’s after all, even WITH a remodel later, bound to have been some shortcuts taken.
I’m just saying horsehair plaster sucks ass. I don’t recommend dealing with it if you can avoid it.

No surprise. Trump is always rushing things and running amok over any rules or best practices that protect against harm in the name of gilding his reputation as a guy who gets things done. And in every area of the economy his administration is working assiduously to dismantle rules and regulations that protect the environment, ensure worker safety, and promote human health.

I’m mad at every single person who accepted and worked on that demo job. They are all criminals from what I can tell. I don’t care if The Big Guy gave the order and wanted it done faster than the law allowed.

It’s idiotic to just tear down old structures like this. Lead, asbestos, mold, who knows what else.

The contractor should go out of business after this. This has been a very public display of poor safety practices combined with seeming ignorance for the reputational and legal risks, as well as the risks of taking on a client with a history of litigation and non-payment. Someone just lacks common sense.

There are a lot of regulations on working with asbestos, mostly about disturbing it as little as possible while removing it. This guy, in charge of executing federal laws and regulations, proceeds to send carcinogenic clouds into the population of DC, MD, and Virginia.

Trump doesn’t give a shit, he believes asbestos is completely safe. He’s long fought regulating it and called the removal push a “mob scam”. He even went on record saying the World Trade Center would still be standing if it was full of asbestos.
Jesus Christ I knew this was gonna happen. This is precisely why we have agencies that OK this kind of thing before we do anything.
A historical Society and regulatory agency isn’t there for shits and giggles, or to cramp your style.
the east wing was built in 1902. There is all kinds of old school shit that used to be perfectly normal construction practice, but today we know to be hazardous to human health. i’m sure it’s not just asbestos either but lead and a whole bunch of other possible hazardous material

And good luck getting this administration to admit fault or help you with medical care. Just ask the 9/11 workers that are still fighting for medical care for their exposure.

As a building inspector and industrial hygienist for the past 25 years, I guarantee they didn’t have an inspection done. The dust spread for blocks, potentially exposing all the workers and civilians. Someone should do an assessment and some micro sampling on buildings and cars to check for contamination. If found, sue them into the fucking stone ages.

It’s ok: if anyone was exposed to asbestos and ends up with negative health consequences, I’m sure the Republicans will take care of their medical needs, just like they did for the 9/11 first responders…
